City euthanizes abandoned, emaciated dog "Ace" despite outpouring from rescue groups - ASSHOLES!
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 09:47 PM by Skip Intro
They had rescue groups ready to take responsiblity for the dog and try to save his life, but the city would have none of it, despite a court order, and killed the dog. My gut says this dog who clung to life despite his desperate situation was killed simply because of some bureaucrat's ego. F*cking bastard.

______________

Ace, the emaciated pit bull rescue groups were desperately trying to save, was euthanized by the city of Detroit today.

Neither Detroit Animal Control nor the city received a reported injunction issued by a Wayne County Circuit judge, Bruce King, general manager of Environmental Health Services in the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion, said in a statement today.

“At the end of business today, the dog referred to as Ace was euthanized following expiration of the four-day holding period and departmental policy,” the statement says.

“We are not insensitive to the overwhelming appeal from citizens for an alternative approach. We are, indeed, heartened by these appeals. However, if we grant this one exception, we are simply not set up for what will undoubtedly lead to overwhelming appeals in similar cases.”

He said a number of people have claimed to be Ace’s owner, but none have provided adequate proof.

Fuck you Bruce King.

on edit, the pic came from the blog at the following link - there you'll find a link to a petition for the federal government to require animal control agencies to work with rescue groups to save animals rather than needlessly kill them: http://lauriebartolo.wordpress.com/2011/11/12/in-loving-memory-of-ace-the-dog/
