Amateur video of US police appearing to use pepper spray on a group of protesters has been posted online.

It seems to show two officers using the spray on demonstrators, who were sitting passively on the ground with their arms linked together.

The incident was said to have been filmed on Friday when police moved in to break up a protest held in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement, at the campus of University of California, Davis.

The officers' actions, and the ensuing video, have prompted outrage among the faculty and students.
