BEER PONG!

Happy hours and pub crawls have been outlawed in Rhode Island, but there's a new drinking game that's raising eyebrows with law enforcement.

NBC 10's I-Team hidden camera revealed a potentially dangerous drinking game called beer pong.

It's generally believed it began in the 1960s at a Dartmouth College fraternity. It's also known as a game called Beirut.

With a variety of rules, the idea is to shoot a ping pong ball into a cup of beer or water and be rewarded by getting to drink the beer out of the 16 ounce cups or claiming a pot of money or, as our undercover producer found, getting a shot of booze when you win.

Over the years, Rhode Island lawmakers have outlawed happy hours and pub crawls, both creating atmospheres for aggressive drinking. The pub crawls were outlawed following the death of a University of Rhode Island student in Newport who was drunk and fell under a bus. Mothers Against Drunk Driving said it feels the beer pong games, held in area clubs and bars, have taken the place of happy hours and pub crawls.

Why did they need a hidden camera?
I watched Betty White play a game of Beer Pong with Jimmy Fallon one night. Where have these people been?
I never played with a pot of money though.
Peope shouldn't drink and drive whether they are playing Beer Pong or not.

4. Its not a terribly difficult game, yet their report gets the rules wrong.
Think the undercover producers may have been playing.. and losing.

5. While in the military, I often played quarters.
The object of the game was to get the other player drunk by bouncing a quarter in the cup of beer and choosing the person who had to drink it.

One memorable (for me, at least) night ended with the quarters table reduced to splinters and pieces as my roommate hacked on it with a machete for about twenty minutes. He then proceeded to brandish it up and down the hall threatening anyone that came out to tell him to shut the **** up. I think he ended up urinating on the second floor hallway. Fortunately, our room was on the third floor.

Good times.

6. WVU is a Division I BeerPong school...
There's an obligatory table (or plywood plank and sawhorses) on every porch around the University for a mile or more.

7. OMG! I've heard that there are these new things!
One is called "quarters!" another is "up the river down the river!" and there is a really bad new one called "3 man" I wanted to mention "mexican" but I thought it might not be politically correct. Anyway, apparently all these new things are DRINKING GAMES! HOLY COW>
