1. The 1% love Family Circus and fear the internationally beloved TINTIN.
Or...does the "America's Silent Majority" story appear in the US issue as well as the others?

4. It was in the US edition as well. And Joe Klein was all over the morning shows.
My point is it's probably misleading to draw a conclusion from a single week's covers. Witness:

9. I agree that one week's cover does not a concern make.
However, there are several:

14. That is a misleading representation, selecting only weeks
...where there is the same cover on the Europe, Asia and South Pacific editions. That is no more common than, say, Europe and South Pacific editions being the same.

16. I see your point. I just happened upon the link from another blog site.
To be honest, I haven't considered TIME a serious, intelligent or influential magazine for many years. Regardless of their cover choices.

That being said, I don't think there is too great an effort from any mainstream publisher to get serious analysis of important issues to US consumers.

7. I'm not entirely sure most people in the U.S. know who Tintin is.
I learned about Tintin when I moved abroad and met a Belgian guy. Prior to that, I had no clue.

8. Its release date is Dec. 21. I'm going to go see 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' that day!
Daniel Craig plays Mikael Blomkvist! I cannot wait to see this U.S. version! It should be excellent. :)

Who or what is TinTin? I have never heard of him/it/her/them.

It may say more about what attracts readers in the different areas.

But thanks for giving me an opportunity to remind people: if you see a rule violation, please don't assume someone else has hit alert. :patriot:

29. Anyway, in the spirit of continuing education, I thought this might help you out.
Since you seem not to understand the meaning of the word and probably thought it just had to do with "reacting" or something...

reactionary or reactionist (rɪˈækʃənərɪ, -ʃənrɪ)

— adj
1. of, relating to, or characterized by reaction, esp against radical political or social change

26. Well Robb
Being a DU mod doesn't mean that you have to give up your autonomy, as far as this web site goes. But I guess all of us here are supposed to be supporting the Democratic party per the DU rules. That makes it difficult for me to support this site. But I have a lot of friends here who are liberals and I will always stand by them in solidarity.

So after watching that.......

The big question is if the CEO's, hedge fund managers, and bankers can make peace with a nuclear Pakistan.

I'm sure they will want at least a "WW2" type effort from their citizens if not.

33. Tintin is not popular here.
Edited on Sat Nov-26-11 10:29 PM by LoZoccolo
Occupy Wall Street, however did occur here.

I don't think that you necessarily have to accuse Time of not wanting people to know about Occupy Wall Street to accuse them of intentionally avoiding it on their cover. There could also be the motive to avoid controversial topics for fear of alienating a segment of their audience, a problem we've seen with other topics in the news. Or just that fear of being accused of being "liberal".
