Pres. Obama held a press conference today.

Referring to a chart that apparently appeared in the New York Times today, the President said that what the Republicans wanted in spending cuts, he had pretty much given them.

Where they were still far apart, however, was on revenue (aka tax increases). And that after he had gone down on the tax rate and up from $250K to $400K.

Take that in slowly. Still far apart on revenues, despite his concessions, but very close on spending cuts because he has already given them pretty much what they asked for.

The Democrats had the leverage in this negotiation.

Take that in slowly, too.

1. Obama is sooo concerned that Republicans will like him.

It ain't workin'. No matter how far he caves they will never accept him because he isn't white. Still, he seems to have a deep seated need for their love.

2. Why assume that Obama is caving or trying to please Republicans?

Usually, the occam's razor argument annoys me for some reason, but, in this case, try it, just as a theory:

Obama is doing what he promised in 2009 to do, what he has wanted all along to do. See if it fits his conduct.
