House passes tax cut bill 277-148. Estate tax vote fails 233-194.
Official vote tally here: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2010/roll647.xml

Among Democrats, 139 ayes, 112 noes.
Among Republicans, 138 ayes, 36 noes.

With a Democratic President, a Democratic House, and a Democratic Senate, the best we could do is a bill that gets only 55% of Democrats but 80% of Republicans? Awesome.

Who would have guessed in November 2008 that the Democratic House would pass the Bush tax cuts with more votes than the Republican House did in 2001?

3. As of this writing...
Pelosi doesn't appear among the ayes, noes, or not voting. Anyone know how she voted?

but who really gives a fuck? She's the Speaker of the House and couldn't do shit to stop the repugs from raping this country.

On edit...

Oh, lets take up a collection and send her flowers for all she's done for us too.

11. I know what you mean.
I was just curious--it would be interesting if she voted against, but didn't use her power as speaker to stop it.

22. House Speakers almost never vote
It's considered an unwritten rule that every Speaker goes by.

5. So it really doesn't matter who is elected since what the rulers
want they will get anyway. I think people thought that to some degree last fall and many stayed home. There are some honorable exceptions of course among the legislators. Just as there were a few German generals who were appalled by Hitler.

That is the title of the bill?

10. Yes. Weird, isn't it?
I guess they repurposed another bill for this purpose.

19. yes -- they attached the tax cut bill as an amendment to the Airport Bill
Probably because they knew if the tax cut went as a standalone it would have gotten defeated easily. Better to attach it to a bill that is well received.

That spoonful of sugar governing :puke:

20. Everyone knew what they were voting on.
The Airport bill was what is known as a shell bill. It had been introduced and had hearings but everything in it was removed except the title. The tax bill was then added as an amendment so they would not have to have hearings, etc. on a stand alone bill.

23. everyone except the public
So they basically cheated by taking the hearing record of an empty bill to speed up the tax breaks for the elite.

13. Becerra, my congressman, is a No.
And that is not a surprise since he held an open meeting with constituents last Saturday, and we let him know that we did not like the tax bill. There were many, many of us, and the large majority opposed the bill.

How often does your congressman meet with you?

Becerra is great about this.

14. My congresswoman and my Senator voted firm no
That's Diana DeGette and Mark Udall. Ed Perlmutter gets the nod as well for being the other Colorado Rep to vote no.

Bennet and the rest of the Colorado Reps sold out.

16. Money talks. There are no words to describe the disappointment
in this administration. 750 billion added to the deficit. And they will now tell us that we must CUT social programs to reduce the deficit, because they care so much about it. Not to mention the lie that cutting SS will do anything to reduce the deficit. But they have more wars to pay for and more bailouts when they screw up again and they need that fund to borrow from.

Up next, SS cuts. I guess we know the script by now.

18. I'm surprised Van Hollen voted no
For the past two years Van Hollen pretty much kept his mouth shut and did as he was told. He was chair of the DCCC.
I guess he's on the outs now, and I'm SO proud of him for his no vote.

21. With a Democratic President, a Democratic Senate full of craven Blue Dogs,
a Democratic House even MORE full of craven Blue Dogs, a Republican minority that is MORE than willing to shoot the proverbial hostage, and a media that cheerfully and obediently pushes the Republican line, this is what we got.

Just offering some perspective. I know that's unwelcome round these parts, now that black and white absolutes are "in vogue".
