Christian radio talk show host 'duped couple into giving away pensions'
The host of a consumer advice show on a Christian radio station duped a couple in Florida to empty their pensions and pour almost $150,000 (£96,000) into a bogus property scheme, they allege.
By Jon Swaine, New York 1:11AM GMT 17 Dec 2010

Larry and Lora Jenkins said they contacted Gary Gauthier, host of "It's God's Money", in 2007 after becoming regular listeners of his talk show, which is broadcast on Saturday mornings.

Mr Gauthier persuaded them and "other investors with similar Christian beliefs" to employ him and "rely on him as a financial adviser", according to a lawsuit filed in Tampa.

It is claimed he told the couple to liquidate their $72,000 (£47,000) retirement funds and put this into the "safer investments" of property developments owned by a company he managed.

Mr Gauthier presented himself as a "good shepherd" and promised the couple a 50 per cent annual return on their stakes, the lawsuit states.

1. Thats what has been said about me posting here.
Edited on Thu Dec-16-10 09:16 PM by RandomThoughts
Some have said by posting thoughts instead of selling them, some say that I am a sucker, or a fool.

Since there are other posts that say other people take those concepts then use them to make money, or for ideas against what they mean.

It is an interesting thought. Although it is a thought of 'money' and 'lack of justice' It is clear what side that thought comes from.

It also presumes that concepts like 'knowledge is power' and controlling information in a form like money. It really is a mixed up thought, but seen it a few times.

That misses the whole point of belief that the world can be just and compassionate.

Then again I never asked, nor was said that posting here would 'gain some reward' so it is not about that anyways.

3. From Courthouse News: 'It's God's Money'? Well, it is Now
'It's God's Money'? Well, it is Now
By DAN MCCUE

~snip~
After forking over their entire IRAs, Gauthier used the bogus monthly statements he produced to persuade them to give him another $75,000, the couple says.

They say Gauthier was actually gambling their money in illiquid, high-risk LLCs that had no revenue other than other investors' money, and no ability to pay continuing expenses for the condos they bought, including mortgage payments and maintenance fees.

To make the payments, Gauthier and his co-defendants began assessing fees for "administrating" the accounts - sometimes billing them repeatedly for the same month, the Jenkins say.

In March 2009, Gauthier, accompanied by his son, pastor, attorney and others, asked the Jenkins and others to a meeting in Tampa that began with a group prayer. Then Gauthier told them that USA Investments was being reorganized as Gulf West Investment Properties, and he encouraged them to switch their investments from one entity to another, according to the complaint.

"It’s All About
Tampa Real Estate"
Presented by: Gary Gauthier

Gary Gauthier is a long time resident of the Tampa Bay area. He was a successful businessman. About ten years ago after Gary got divorced; he was forced to file bankruptcy, was $ 165,000 in debt, and had to give up his livelihood and license to sell stocks and bonds. He called a friend who ran a wholesale unit for encyclopedias and went door to door selling those wonderful books of knowledge. In such a short time he lost his kids, his profession, and all his retirement savings. He had to start over. He prayed that he could somehow make it. He worked seven days a week (He still works six days a week), day and night and actually began to make good money. Being out of the stock market awhile allowed him to take a look to reevaluate and see where the real money was being made. He found the answer in REAL ESTATE. He first purchased a million dollar beachfront condo with just $1650.00 down and the rest was carried by owner financing. As they say, the rest is history! He is now an entrepreneur developer and investor. If the name sounds familiar it may be that you’ve heard him on his radio show, “All About Florida Real Estate” on WGUL 680 am on Saturday mornings at 10. Come join us as he gives his perspective on what’s going on today and how you to can reach your dreams of financial wealth through real estate.

Don’t forget to bring any deals you are working on or are looking for and any questions you might have. It’s a great opportunity to network with some very experienced real estate entrepreneurs. See you there!

8. I wondered about that, as well. They shouldn't be a conduit for flim-flam artists.
They ARE using public air waves, should have a sense of responsibility, if that's even possible for a conservative station.

Now they will qualify for extra help on their Medicare Part D. He only has to live 3 years to qualify, but she has to make it for 15 years.

11. Not just a exclusively christian phenomenon...
There was a similar thing that happened in Australia recently involving a scientologist named Carly Crutchfield who gave 'financial seminars' and was breaking into TV when it was revealed she had swindled an older couple whom she was 'advising' of a 4+ million dollar property.

If you're ever doing business with a religious son-of-a-bitch, get it in writing. His word isn't worth shit, not with the good lord telling him how to fuck you over on the deal.

13. Many an elderly person sends their money to some one like that.
My grandmother sent money to Billy Graham. We did not know it until she went to the nursing home and we cleaned out the house and found hundred dollar bills stuffed into an envelope marked to Graham. They are truly brainwashed.
