Susan Collins calls cops on 9/11 First Responders.
You have got to be fucking kidding me.

"Republican senators were so worried about meeting with 9/11 responders who came to Washington today that at least one called the cops on them, the Daily News has learned.

Even before the nine responders had a chance to start visiting senators’ offices - where they intended to stay until meeting with legislators - they were greeted by Capitol Police, who had been called by Sen. Susan Collins (R-Me.).

Collins apparently reacted to a story in today’s News which quoted a letter to senators from 9/11 advocate John Feal warning that he and others planned to sit in offices until they got meetings - or the police made them leave."

So the Patriotic Republicans not only couldn't vote for health benefits for 9/11 first responders but they are so... what... embarrassed? Scared? Moronic? That they called the cops.

Now let me make sure I have this right. Susan Collins in an effort to thwart health care for police and firemen who responded to 9/11 actually called the POLICE on... wait for it.. the POLICE who showed up to protest... Not too fucking bright are we...

4. "until they got meetings - or the police made them leave"

So, let me see if I understand this correctly.

They said they would camp out in her office until they got a meeting or until the police made them leave.

So, it is her job to grant a meeting to whomever shows up and camps out, and if she chooses their own Plan B, then she is just awful.

Does this apply to any group who shows up and demands a meeting, or just this group?

5. Of course, since they hadn't done anything
I suppose this is a "Minority Report" situation where the police intervened "pre-crime." Isn't it instructive, though, that the party of 9/11, rather than meeting with the heroes of that day, whose exploits the Republicans have shamelessly claimed as their own for the last decade in seeking political advantage, calls the cops rather than meet with them? I guess they aren't heroes anymore, having served their purpose.

7. I totally get the hypocrisy

But, regardless of who I am and what the issues are, if I announce I am going to camp out in your living room until you do what I want or I am removed by the police, it is not some manifestation of "pre crime" for you to take me at my word.

I personally don't know what the senator's schedule is like, but one can make the same "we were denied a meeting" point without the theatrics.

The very point of the theatrics - i.e. "we're camping out unless you call the police" - is to be able to make the very claim: "ZOMG, her office called the police".

Well, no duh. But should every senator's schedule be determined by groups that show up and demand meetings or removal? There's a whole parade of worthy groups in that line.

8. No indication they were even headed to Sen. Collins' office
And, from what I can read of the account, Sen. Collins just heard from a news report that the first responders were coming to lobby their congressional representatives, not that they had contacted her directly. I wonder if her office calls the cops based on any second-hand information it gleans from various sources?

I've participated in groups going to senatorial offices. We understand it's highly unlikely that the Senator is going to come out personally to meet with anybody; most intelligent politicians, however, realize that drop-ins are inevitable, and will at the very least send a minion out to fob off uninvited guests not bearing fat checks for their campaign coffers. Collins didn't even provide that base level courtesy; she just called the cops, the coward.

6. Did whiny, coward, corrupt Collins dial 911???
"Hello. Yes, this is Susan Collins. I'd like to report that
a bunch of your silly, dying co-workers don't like the fact that we're denying
them them basic services. Yes, yes, I know that they are dying and suffering
because they sacrificed their health and their lives running into a toxic
cloud on September eleventh. Yes, yes, I also know that our government
routinely used these people as stage props during September eleventh when
we wanted to scare them into voting against Kerry...or just scare them in
general! Yes...I DO realize that it was US who told them that it was safe
to be in or around ground zero. But that's beside the point. And that was
yesterday. Today--they're bothering me. Can you come and arrest them? Please.
They're starting to depress me."

9. She has to be the most feeble minded member of the senate.
And that's saying a lot.

She is the biggest flake in the senate. You cannot depend on her.

This exposes the GOP for the liars they are. They love to talk about caring for first responders.
