Selma bans pants sagging 3 inches below hips
Selma bans pants sagging 3 inches below hips

Associated Press - December 16, 2010 6:04 AM ET

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - People who wear sagging pants in Selma could end up paying a fine and doing community service work.

The Selma City Council voted 5-2 to ban sagging pants that fall more than three inches below the hips. District Attorney Michael Jackson urged the council to approve the pants ordinance. He said it will make people feel freer to tell young people to pull up their pants.

Councilman Samuel Randolph said the new ordinance is close to racial profiling because it is geared toward minority teenagers.

The district attorney told the Selma Times-Journal that enforcement will require common sense, but someone showing underwear and skin is wearing their pants too low.

The ordinance provides fines of up to $100 for a juvenile and $200 for an adult.

4. That is absolutely ridiculous and an infringement on individual rights.
Will this be applied to guys and girls evenly? Most girls under the age of 25 show a little skin above their pants. So are you going to fine them too or is this specifically directed at one special segment of the population?

Assholes.

that sags their pants. I'll let you guess what segment that is.

5. "Next on the agenda, we have the proposal to ban painting pigs green for St. Patrick's Day."
Don't these people have anything BETTER to do? Idiots who wear their pants like that are already a joke. I saw a guy with pants most of the way down his ass, but what REALLY made me laugh is that the legs were sewn together down to the knees. He looked like a freakish cartoon character. I would have LOVED to see him try to run in those!!!!

Or the plumbers who show their ass crack every time they bend over?

The crotch of his pants is almost to his knees.

We don't need to ban them though, just ban stupid people :)

18. Was in the grocery couple years ago...
Young woman walks past with toddler in tow, skinny (I mean REALLY skinny, this guy didn't have enough of an ass to hold up a pair of pants even if they were the correct size) dude follows her with another young kid in the cart. Dude's pants were sagging so bad you could see all of his boxers and then some.
When they fell completely down around his ankles, he tripped and was forced to frantically clutch at the cart for support.
Dude then smacked his head on the cart while bending over to retrieve his trousers, and I heard the first kid holler "Wait, Mummy! Daddy's pants fell down again!"

Was laughing so hard bf came around the corner and thought I was having a stroke.

You're right, we don't need to do anything to these kids, their idea of "cool" is punishment enough.

:D

29. And the fad will continue as long as we continue to act shocked.
This particular one has lasted much longer than I thought it would, not because it's uncomfortable (ever wear a thong?), but because it's so physically restrictive. Not to mention how aggravating it must be to have to constantly pull your pants up so that you can sit down, climb stairs, pick up the pace, etc.

39. I really don't know, I hate the damned things.
Geez, I spend a lot of time and money acquiring comfortable underwear that doesn't give me a wedgie and doesn't look like grannie undies.

I won't wear push-up/padded bras either, not just because I don't need the extra "volume" but because it always seemed like false advertising.

It's difficult enough to be taken seriously when you work in a male dominated industry, sexing yourself up to go to work is really counterproductive. Did you know, for instance, that some men actually think that we can make our nipples erect on command?

Gotta give him a point for honesty. So, Selma must be a bastion of liberal do-gooders, right? Only those goddam libruls would think to enact such nanny state regulation of free expression, right? They better watch out, or Sarah Palin will be on their ass!

16. This is ridiculous.
I can see how the trend is stupid, but fining people and making them do community service for it is stupid, especially since they're showing, um, nothing by doing it. There's no genitalia hanging out or ass crack, so why the ban?

It's subjective as to one thinks that's fashionable or not, but it's not a crime. There are more important things to worry about, imo.

23. Plumbers, or just the young?
My local hardware store sells Butt Crack Putty for this purpose. It seems to do the job just fine without dragging the law into it...

At any rate, there's a new style of pants at our university - the crotch is around the knee, but they have a high waist you hide under your shirt. They look saggy but they're really not...

25. Y'know, I ridicule and mock those who sag their pants, but I don't think it should be illegal.
Seeing someone's boxers is not cause to throw them in jail.

Granted, I think that people who have their pants' waistbands hitched below their butts look completely ridiculous, and I've been tempted to sneak up behind them and pants them (Only tempted... I haven't actually done it.)

33. At least the boxers actually fit which is a blessing.
I'm wondering if this isn't more directed at the boys wearing girl pants.

A guy wearing skin tight pants falling 3 inches below the waste sans undies is a sneeze away from something nobody wants to see in the Express Lane.
