Bradley Manning's health deteriorating in jail, supporters say

As Julian Assange emerged from his nine-day imprisonment, there were renewed concerns about the physical and psychological health of Bradley Manning, the former US intelligence analyst suspected of leaking the diplomatic cables at the centre of the storm.

Manning, who was arrested seven months ago, is being held at a military base in Virginia and faces a court martial and up to 52 years in prison for his alleged role in copying the cables.

His friends and supporters also claim they have been the target of extra-judicial harassment, intimidation and outright bribery by US government agents.

According to David House, a computer researcher from Boston who visits Manning twice a month, he is starting to deteriorate. "Over the last few weeks I have noticed a steady decline in his mental and physical wellbeing," he said. "His prolonged confinement in a solitary holding cell is unquestionably taking its toll on his intellect; his inability to exercise due to regulations has affected his physical appearance in a manner that suggests physical weakness."

2. We need to contact Amnesty International and the International Red Cross,
not the American Red Cross, and push on them to look into this detention.

Added contact pages to the OP.

5. His treatment alone, not to mention our other torture policies
gives Assange's attorneys concrete reasons to demand that he never be extradited to the U.S. Treaties signed by EU countries regarding extradition, make it impossible to extradite someone to a country that tortures.

6. You think they care? If he dies, most that would happen is someone will pay a fine
A few people will complain, and then it will be forgotten about.

21. Yep, they need him to testify. If he croaks after that testimony then
no one will give a shit about a dead traitor.

9. Can anyone translate into German
so I can tweet my "contact the Red Cross to protest Bradley Manning's isolation" thingy? French would be good, too. Thousands of dollars to the UC regents and I can't translate a sentence into French.

lol

11. I read on twitter that today is Brad Manning's birthday.
It seems to be true or at least, that's what it says at wikepedia.

He's 23 years old.

13. Hard to imagine it being different under any president.
This is just how the government functions. Unfortunately.

It would be good to get enough pressure going to help dissuade the Obama administration from going down this road. In addition to other concerns, it won't be a political winner for them. The Republicans will beat them over the head no matter what they do and our own side of the aisle and their liberal supporters will also launch criticism at them.

14. The term "tipping point" is over used, but for me personally, if Bradley Manning is being tortured I
wont ever be able to support reelection of Pres Obama. It's time for the frog to jump out of the fucking pot and take his chances with landing in the fire.
