Republicans threaten to derail START

Key Senate Republicans are threatening to pull their support of the START nuclear arms treaty because they don’t like the way Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is handling the Senate floor schedule.

On the second full day of debate on the treaty, three Republicans — Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, Arizona Sen. John McCain and South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham – accused Democrats of playing politics with the treaty by scheduling Saturday votes on repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and the DREAM Act.

13. That's exactly why I'd like to see them asked that -- on a regular basis.
Is it a fair question? Of course not -- it's right down there with "Have you stopped beating your wife?"

But I'd bet large sums of money that you wouldn't see so many smug, condescending smirks popping up on the M$M if these sociopaths knew that the interviewer had that question in their repertoire -- and was fully prepared to ask it. Same with any other guest in a roundtable discussion. Look 'em straight in the eye and ask away.

Oh sure, there'd be a lot of hrummphing and faux-hurt-feelings and "that isn't nice" as they try to dredge up some bullshit to justify their position. And it wouldn't be very "bipartisan" (or "post-partisan") in our new, greatly improved climate of cooperation. :sarcasm:

I'm reminded of the story (probably apocryphal) where some politician suggested that his team spread the rumor that his opponent regularly had carnal knowledge of the barnyard animals on his farm.

"But that isn't true!" one staffer replied.

"I know it isn't," said the candidate. "But let's make the sumbitch deny it."

4. How does holding a vote on ONE issue, on Saturday, prevent them from
considering ANOTHER UNRELATED issue on Monday?

7. Harry Reid was Majority leader and WILL BE majority leader! Will
he let the minority repukes push him around? If so, he will be steam rolled with monotonous regularity.

during the holidays. These guys will get the same treatment.

12. With all the linkage of unrelated items in the Republican Christmas Tree
Put together tax cuts for the wealthy with tax cuts for everyone below $250,000, link it to a shorter extension of benefits for the unemployed, but leave out the long-term unemployed who have exhausted their benefits, bring in a surprise "holiday" in social security contributions, and couple all that with a reduction in the estate tax, and a raise in the estate tax exemption (more goodies for the wealthy, decking the halls of the affluent with quite few boughs of holly, and NOBODY thought to say, "Now, this guarantees that you all will allow DADT and START to come to the floor for an up-or-down vote, right?"

Because that would be partisan! And, and, and, POLITICAL! Oh, the wailing, the gnashing of teeth, the clutching of pearls and the fainting dead away that would ensue. After grafting together such disparate handouts to the rich some quo might be asked for all that quid? Unthinkable!

And so, the Republicans get everything they want for the wealthy. They throw a few crumbs temporarily to some other people. And now they'll scuttle votes on START and DADT. Because nobody on our side had the sense to wring an agreement out of these dupicitous fuckers before going ahead with two more years (and almost surely more) of giveaways to the wealthy.
