KS state senator switches from Dem to Repuke
His county is the most Democratic in the state. Really dumb move. No way will he be re-elected.

Kansas Senator Chris Steineger — who was elected as a Kansas City, Kan., Democrat — announced this morning that he has joined the Republican Party.

“My views on taxing, borrowing, and spending and on the size and role of government in our society, have changed over the years and today more closely align with the Republican Party,” he wrote in a written release.

Steineger said he’s concerned that big government regulations are creeping too far into the lives of Americans.

“We must keep big government out of our lives and avoid bans or mandates regarding: guns, abortion, smoking, gambling, same sex marriage, seatbelts, motorcycle helmets, etc. I believe: ‘Personal freedom for responsible people,’” he wrote.

3. "avoid bans or mandates" So is he pro-choice and pro-marriage equality then?
“We must keep big government out of our lives and avoid bans or mandates regarding: guns, abortion, smoking, gambling, same sex marriage, seatbelts, motorcycle helmets, etc. I believe: ‘Personal freedom for responsible people,’” he wrote.

That is the one of the most confusing pieces of gobbledygook I've ever read.

13. well the KDP also turned against him
for what turned out to be a losing candidate. I wasn't happy about that and he could not have been happy about that either.

Of course, he sorta bugged the heck out of me. At least three times he seemed to be spewing conservative talking points in part of his spiel. In Basehor, Parsons and Tonganoxie. But he probably would have been alright as Secretary of State.

I hate to lose even a moderate Democrat in the Senate though, although like you say we should be able to get it back in 2012, considering that it is the Dotte. But you never know. If people like him, he may be able to win as a Republican even in the Dotte, and who do we have to run against him? One of the State Reps?

I guess I could have read about it on DU before I posted it on DU after hearing it on the 10 o'clock news. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=153x9581

Not only that, but I apparently cannot spell 'Chris'.

14. I would be shocked if he won his re-election in 2 years
If he was in any county but Wyandotte, he might have a chance. It's the most Democratic county in the state. I don't think they have ANY republican representation, in Topeka or at the county level. Their Democratic party is also very active. They're meeting this morning and if I didn't have another meeting, I'd love to go to hear what they say about Chris. He was definitely a controversial figure in the party and had experienced a fall from grace, as they say, since the tea party had attracted him to many of their events.

Wyandotte also has the fastest growing economy and added the most jobs of any county in the state last year.

Chris is also riding on his family name. They are prominent in his community. But his constituents have grown increasingly weary of his antics. And as much as the republicans have belittled him, I'm surprised he joined their party.

Interesting turn of events, that's for sure.

15. This line is stunning
“We must keep big government out of our lives and avoid bans or mandates regarding: guns, abortion, smoking, gambling, same sex marriage, seatbelts, motorcycle helmets, etc. I believe: ‘Personal freedom for responsible people,’” he wrote.

Now I will give him guns and smoking and maybe seatbelts but the rest are things the GOP tries to mandate.
