Human Rights Watch: 2 "looters" were just caught in Alexandria who had police ID cards
Edited on Sun Jan-30-11 12:50 AM by Turborama
From http://www.hrw.org/egypt-live-updates">Human Rights Watch's live blog

"2 looters were just caught in Muharram Beyh neighborhood of Alexandria who had police ID cards and were members of undercover plainclothes force."

As was predicted: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x301121

ETA

Al Jazeera English reporting that hundreds of civilians are rounding up the gangs of "looters" & vandals and handing them in to the army as there's no police. The army are just acting as recipients and are not trying to stop any of the "looting" or vandalism. Woman on the phone right now absolutely distraught that the army appear to be complicit in the "looting" and vandalism.

6. That would be my guess, too.
And this is why I do not believe the CIA (or any other government-backed group) is behind these protests - it took them two days to get their false flag ops up and running. They weren't prepared.

25. If it was a false-flag operation, why were they carrying IDs?
It doesn't make sense.

30. Plain-clothes.
They weren't wearing their ids but having it on them insured they wouldn't be beat bloody if arrested. Yet they still looked like regular civilians to any media that might capture them on video.

7. "We've been seeing atrocities and what's more important is the withdrawal of police."
8:18 am: Salma ElTarzi, a protestor in Cairo, tells Al Jazeera by telephone that she and other demonstraters have been subject to "brutal violence" from police.

"We've been seeing atrocities and what's more important is the withdrawal of police. On the 28th midday, they were brutally bombing us with tear gas, with live bullets. My brother was shot with a shotgun. There was blood everywhere. Suddenly, after all this violence, police started retreating for no apparent reason."

Despite the violence, ElTarzi said she will be back on the streets today.

"We will be back on the streets everyday until he (Mubarak) leaves and until we choose who is going to follow."

15. There are lots of reports of men being caught "looting" and holding police ID
All over the internet.

You carry on believing they are "ordinary looters" if you want, though.

31. Actually, Egyptians are saying that Mubarak vanished the police and unleashed the thugs,
including releasing 1,000s of prisoners, to make everyone frightened and miss him.

Well, it looks like that tactic failed.

Probably for their own personal gain.

Cops break laws too.

26. Because they were arrogant and thought they wouldn't get caught?
And if they did get caught the ID could be used as a psychological weapon, like in the Egypt of just over a week ago?

23. It was a lot more than two who switched to plainclothes and did all they could
to discredit the revolution.

The Tunisians warned the Egyptians they would do this, as they had in Tunisia, and people were out everywhere, armed with whatever they had, fighting and catching these Mubaratchiks.
