Apropos of nothing . . . .
. . . . do you think Speaker John Boner is capable of running the country?

The inspiration of this question is a program I was watching a little while ago on NatGeo. It was a behind the scenes look at workings of the State Dept. In the program they mentioned that Secretary of State was fourth in line for the presidency. Of course I knew that, but still I thought about it. I am perfectly confident at the prospect of Hillary Clinton in that role. I don't particularly agree with her stance on many issues, but I am okay with her ability.

I thought about number two, Joe Biden. No qualms there, either.

That left number 3.

That led to the question.

I'm sure Speaker Boner is a great golf partner. I'm sure he's a great cocktail party companion. No doubt he's quite the fund raiser.

But president?

Meh.

1. Nope, NOT capable.
In fact, that's a scary thought.

I hope we never have to face that possibility.

:scared:

3. sadly, he's probably more capable than George W. Bush

Maybe just smart enough to do a lot more damage. Bush was so disinterested and limited that he really was the "useful idiot" of neoconservative ideology.

4. I think we need a constitutional amendment changing the line of succession.
Put Secty of State before Speaker of The House.

5. I agree with your assessment, but....
you skipped one of those in line.

It's:

  • Vice President -- Joe Biden
  • Speaker of the House -- John Boehner
  • President Pro Tempore of the Senate -- Daniel Inouye
  • Secretary of State -- Hilary Clinton
  • etc., etc., etc.

All of those folks are acceptable to me, with the one glaring exception that you mentioned in your original post.
