3. Obama did this one right.
An executive order could have put a permanent repeal on the backburner.

9. An EO wouldn't even have been legal, actually.
Issuing an EO to prevent the enforcement of a statute law is illegal, akin to Bush ordering that the laws against torture be ignored or redefined. The ban on gays in the military was, after all, a law passed by congress, not a simple military policy or defense directive the way, say, segregation of the armed forces was.

2. Rainbow people vs. brown people. That's the difference, I think.
I'm ecstatic that DADT was repealed. I'm not about the Dream act not making it.

5. And it is before the end of the year, but it won't matter

Because Obama is a homophobe who tried to stop this, yadda yadda yadda

A judicial resolution would have been the religious right's new fuel. They were born out of Roe v Wade.

6. I've been supportive of Obama letting Congress do it. I knew they & he would get it done!
Obama said he'd get rid of DADT and now in a couple of hours it will be gone! :)

14. People don't have the patience to see stuff done properly.
They want everything carried out by executive fiat, little realizing that things cannot be done that way, and when they can they'll simply be reversed by the next executive.

Nobody can call this abuse of power. There is no activist court argument here. It's just sweet, sweet law. :)

15. I hope that those who were screaming and bitching, threatening not to vote
in 2012 now realize that Obama just might now what he's doing. There is always a rationale behind the action. I'm going to put my faith in the fact that Holder is competent and understands the legalese around the issue.

The post-DADT Lieberman-Udall-Collins-Gillibrand press conference explained everything.

The president had no force of law to stop DADT; it HAD to happen in the Congress.

17. Even though I never used that language, progressive frustration should never be dismissed.

I was steadfast in my support of this administration and their promise to overturn DADT this year.

Yeah, I started sweating during the lame duck, but I still held on to the promise that it would be overturned before the end of the year.

Why? Because I worked my ass off calling my supportive legislators to see who they could persuade others from across the aisle.

18. To their credit, many DU'ers who were most vocal...
have congratulated Obama, and admitted they were wrong.

Other prominent critics, however, are conspicuously silent.

22. But the damage is already done based on their senseless and baseless criticism
of President Obama. The catcalls and insults hurled at him by the people who couldn't wait 2 years for this major accomplishment diminished the President in the eyes of the gullible and easily swayed. To them he is a "republican" and "corporatist" or simply a "homophobe."

It would have been nice to give the President the benefit of the doubt instead of incessantly attacking him and accusing him of being something he isn't.
