Holy crap. Dig this Freeper quote on today's DADT cloture vote.
"If these people fear the Tea Party so much, the Tea Party needs to rise up and demand, no force, the House and Senate to provide honorable discharges for any military member who is deemed a CONSICENCENT OBJECTOR to serving with openly homosexual military members. No military member should EVER be forced to live with a homosexual against their will."

2. Actually, that is exactly what HST told the troops when he integrated
the services, and blacks and whites would have to live together and shower together. Those whose beliefs would not allow that mixing of the races were discharged honorably and sent home. Some left, more, a lot more stayed. It was a peaceful transition.

If it did, then it wouldn't be the "Tea Party" any longer. I favor making social issues the center of everything.

20. The Tea Party has a posiiton ... they just avoid mentiong it ... that ...
along with most of their social conservative stances. They keep their social positions quiet because they want independents to embrace their "defict hawk" side.

12. I'm cool with allowing the homophobes to be discharged.
Maybe when they realize that they have a way "out", we'll see how many of them are actually brave enough to give up their jobs for the sake of their right-wing bullshit rhetoric. Right-wingers are never very good at sacrificing--at least not when the sacrifice involves *themselves*.

16. You've noticed that, huh?
It seems that every time the phrase "Sacrifices must be made" comes into play, it ain't never the person (or their particular in-group) saying it who has to make the actual sacrifice.

:wtf:

24. Spelling aside...
the clown that wrote this has no knowledge of the military.

In the real military... not the ones they invent in their minds and endlessly fantasize about... people do exactly what they are told. They serve with whom they are told, when they are told, and how they are told.

Gay, straight, purple, one big eye, tentacles... whatever.

The Corps told me that there are dark green Marines and light green Marines, but we were all Marines. If we didn't like that... well... we'd better fucking start liking it.

I'm saying that the repeal of DADT will be a non-event in the military, except that now gays won't get thrown out.

31. Funny thing is I actually agree with him.
If someone is that bigoted that they would end their military career to not be around "the gayz" well honestly it likely is best if they aren't in the military.

As someone else pointed out a similar thing was done when armed forced were desegregated. He is speaking from a place of hate and intolerance but he actually has a good point.

33. The Fantastic By-product of this...
The fantastic by-product of this will be that the numbers of fundamentalist Christians distorting the mission of the US military will diminish as they take their discharges and leave.

Then, we can make some progress in the Muslim world to convince local populations that our actions are not a crusade.

We can begin to make fewer threats and more friends.

They just didn't know it in some cases. The military claims to be a job. You can't discriminate against people in other jobs. The military is catching up with the times.

38. I am pretty sure that free will
Edited on Sun Dec-19-10 06:45 AM by quaker bill
is part of what you give up when you join the military. This is why they can order you to "take that hill" even when they are pretty sure that you and many of your friends will die in the process. Sleeping in the same barracks with a few dozen men, a couple of whom might be gay, is really not a big issue in this context. I am pretty sure that consciencious objector status is not and will not be granted on this basis.

It is an all volunteer force. If one has problems serving alongside minority, gay, and lesbian soldiers, don't re-up.
