Georgia Republican Wants to Abolish Drivers Licenses
Bobby Franklin, a Republican Georgia state legislator (who thinks that rape victims shouldn't be called "victims"), thinks that driver's licenses impose undue restrictions on the right of citizens to travel freely. Therefore, he has proposed legislation that would stop the state from issuing drivers licenses.

Franklin's legislation states:

"Free people have a common law and constitutional right to travel on the roads and highways that are provided by their government for that purpose. Licensing of drivers cannot be required of free people, because taking on the restrictions of a license requires the surrender of an inalienable right."

3. So, let's see what's wrong with this idea.
1. If I drive to Alabama, will the cops recognize my non-driver's license?

2. How many drunk drivers and others whose licenses have been revoked for various violations will rejoice and party at this news?

3. Do I still need insurance and have to buckle my seat belt?

4. If I am an illegal immigrant, can I bring my entire extended family of dozens of people to live in Georgia since I don't need a driver's license?

This is a clear example: If stupidity caused pain, this guy would be in the emergency room of stupid right now.

12. I think you're absolutely right!
And that's why it will probably pass - not only because the majority is nuts, but because they're that crazed with partisanship.

You know these people well.

7. It seems the farther right you go the more anarchist you become.
The farther left you go the more anarchist you become.

So if everyone moved either far right or far left the more alike we would become.

... want to be the evil overlords. And, I must admit, it does sound like a good gig, if you do things right.

9. I think it's a good idea.
Given that a driver's license has little and nothing to do with whether or not one can safely operate a motor vehicle and has become little more than a de facto state ID card. I say good riddance.

Motorists get the full brunt of nanny-state-ism and it needs to be reined in.

14. Motorists get the full brunt because THEY EARN IT
Motorists are responsible for 30-40,000 deaths annually, along with scads of air and noise pollution, wasted time, not to mention the distorted cities and towns we build to accomodate them.

They can't be nanny-stated enough.

17. LOL!!
Actually, I don't know whether to

:spray: or  or  in response to that.

What a load of utter fucking crap.

"not to mention the distorted cities and towns we build to accomodate them."

"WE"?!? Who the fuck is this "we"? Do you have a mouse in your pocket? Are you on a road construction crew? Do you build towns for a living? Complete shit.

Unfortunately, for you and the other DU'rs who think this guy is nuts, he is actually on to something. Why should you be required to have a government issued credential to travel? Qualification to operate a motor vehicle is something entirely different.

And I am willing to bet a weeks salary that you are as clueless a driver as are the majority of Americans tend to be, and I can say that with complete confidence because I have made my living operating commercial motor vehicles for more than 2 decades. I am intimately familiar with the driving expertise of the average American.

11. How crazy.
I can't imagine how many accidents there would be (here in L.A.) if even the minimum requirement that you can drive safely for 10 minutes is waived. I really don't want people who can't pass a driving test out there on the freeways. And that includes my otherwise brilliant daughter who has yet to pass one! She needs more practice time (with a licensed driver) before she is ready.

13. I live in Georgia so this is no surprise to me..............
He is dumb as a box of rocks.....

There may be a right to "travel" under the Constitution but when they wrote it (remember the Repukkkes believe in original intent) cars did not exist. So there is no way the Framers meant this meant you could drive a car without a license.

As a practical matter, a car is a moving instrument of death. Of course we need to license drivers although I have to admit my observations on the roads of this state do not give me comfort that the licensing requirements result in drivers who not only obey the law but are courteous to the other drivers.

If only a single county would ticket people turning across double yellow lines to get their cholesterol burger at McDonalds, etc. they would be flush with cash.

provided by the government? In other words, he's a damn socialist, taking money from the tax payers to build roads for him and his commie buddies to drive on. Tell him to go back to Russia.

I actually don't think this is a bad idea.
