Lakeshore Drive Chicago Feb.2, 2011

Cars are seen stranded on Lake Shore Drive
Cars are seen stranded on Lake Shore Drive, Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 in Chicago. A winter blizzard of historic proportions wobbled an otherwise snow-tough Chicago, stranding hundreds of drivers for up to 12 hours overnight on the city's showcase lakeshore thoroughfare and giving many city schoolchildren their first ever snow day

1. The obvious question
Why would anyone walk off and leave their car OPEN like this during a blizzard?

9. People Were Ordered Out...
...this according to a friend who was stuck in that mess. He had been stranded on LSD from 3pm until 4:30am. During most that time the CPD promised that the obstructions would be removed but nothing happened. Some people ditched their cars and walked the mile or so to the nearest shelter (battling 50mph winds). Finally at 4:30 CPD decided to get everyone out of their cars ASAP and tow them away...a real chaotic situation. My friend was put on a snowmobile and taken to a bus and then to a hospital...his car was towed and it took him two days to locate it. To tow the cars the city needed access to the brakes and gears. My guess is those open windows were from people who were ordered out and were so cold and tired they were just glad to be getting off that road.

10. I have a rep who I normally talk to/ email on a daily basis
this is a major pharmaceutical company

We couldn't get ahold of her for several days ( I myself was out with the flu early in the week) and had some emergencies that we couldn't get cleared up. I finally talked to her boss on Thursday - he literally said, "let me see if anyone is in the building" trying to resolve a problem.

Amazing.

13. Maybe it was a
stolen car? A car borrowed from someone who is very disliked? Spouse angry.

Or just a stupid person?
