I kinda think it will trap some needed wind in his Sailspitch. What think you?

8. Yeah he did nothing
He only fucking ensured it would get to this point by not bending and issuing a useless "executive order" that it not be enforced until the next puke took office.

Bitch and moan all you want, he did it, he did a lot to make sure it got to this point and I don't think you fucking even know what the fuck a corporatist is.

I'm really starting to sense a lot of disappointment among "some" here that they didn't manage to win on this.

Our President did not fight for it (what a surprise!). He could have not appealed a court order suspending all discharges, and it would have been done. He could have done a lot of things... you know, considering he is a "fierce advocate" and all. Sorry for not joining your cult of praise, but the repeal of DADT is owed solely to grassroots activism; denying that is disgraceful.

dammit do you really think it would have worked if the DOJ just dropped it? Cult of praise?... are you are totally clueless? Obama has said, from the start of the campaign that he wanted to end DADT and that he wanted to end DADT before the end of his first term. Shit, wow we're still less than half way through... it's ended. Too bad for the people betting against it but it's ended and all the bitching and moaning in the world ain't bringing it back just so people can enjoy their little bitch sessions.

He wanted a legislative end to DADT because that is the most secure way to actually end DADT. He and pretty much everyone else has tried to explain it but a lot people are just a bit too dense to figure it out.

If he didn't appeal the court order it would have ended DADT until about 10 seconds into the first term of the next repuke President when it would have been reinstated without any need for legislative action. Oh my... I wonder what would have happened to all the decent people that no longer felt they had to hide their sexual orientation in the military? I'm sure the pukes would have let them grandfather in and been nice enough not to kick them to the curb about a week after the reinstatement of the shitty law now wouldn't they?

Congress, the gutless assholes they are, would never have taken up DADT if the DOJ didn't appeal the ruling and Congress would have simply punted because they could and it would be the easy way out. When has Congress not taken the easy way out? Only when they weren't given the option.

If the DoJ hadn't appealed the court order saying DADT was unconstitutional, it would have come to an end immediately. Try to understand there are those of us that belong to this community called reality. The facts are there. If Obama had come out passionately for repeal like he did for giving tax cuts to his Wall Street buddies or reminding us when states legalize same-sex marriage that he prefers civil unions, this atrocious policy would have ended much sooner.

3. And I quote "Obama doesn't control the Senate"
I believe we've heard that more than a few times on this here site, have we not?

This is a victory, no doubt. And it's one of the first Democratic victories without caveats, or coupled with other more shitty compromises where we lose more than we get. This is a victory for the side of justice.

But it can't be both ways as far as Obama himself goes. When the Senate sucks and does horrible things and people blame Obama for his hands off approach and ceding to much it can't be "Obama doesn't control the senate. Oh well, nothing he can do about it. Needs the 60 votes, just not there" but then when they do something right it can't be "See! Obama is great. Everyone should thank him for his steadfast leadership and strength."

Social issues are a much easier play (not that they aren't uphill pushing a boulder as well) than economic and investment policy when dealing with the corporate establishment.

37. Yes.
It removes some recent doubts and restores faith in his process.

While I know and accept that he must compromise on some things to get anything substantial accomplished, some of the compromises created doubt and disappointment.

While I also realize that he's far more active behind the scenes than we will ever know, it was still hard to have him perceived as "silent," "passive," or "weak" at times.

I'm greatly reassured.

38. Er..no.
I reject the irrational exuberance that the president somehow architected this with his dazzling display of 3-D chess, or "he MEANT for it to wind up this way", or any other accreditation of the repeal of DADT to him. This was a long game, begun by many gay folks who were the pioneers and took the arrows and hit the pavement, and talked to people to convince them of the insanity of this policy. They deserve the wind, not Mr. Obama.
