You Want To Cut Health Care, Medicare $ SS? Then Start With Your Own Families.
All these deficit hawk are fierce when making cuts for others but always seem to exclude themselves. They don't like those programs? Then everyone who wants to slash other people's benefits should give them up. And not just theirs but those for their parents and their parent's parents. Let them pay for everything for their grannie and families. Let's see how serious they are then.

1. Those people are already rich; they don't need the benefits.
Which is why it's so easy for them to talk about cutting them.

5. You's Think So
But the rich always want everything they can get and don't want to give up anything for themselves. Take John McCain for example. Rich wife, gets fat senate salary and benefits also takes hos navy pension and who knows what else. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes SS when he is eligible. And all during the past debate I wondered if Alan Simpson collected SS but could never find the answer.

9. For the record, John McCain does not 'take' a Navy pension - it is a benefit
as a result of his career in the Navy.

He does not 'take' SS (if he does receive it, and at his age he is eligible) - he paid in to the SS system during his Navy career, and quite likely as a Senator during his earlier years in congress.

10. So He Likes His Entitlements
But he doesn't have to take them. And I didn't say he took SS. Nor do I think he is eligible to do so as I believe if you earn a certain amount of money your benefits are cut. I could be wrong about that. But the point being made here is they take everything that is due them and yet want to cut everyone else's benefits, which they also paid for.

12. Not entitlements. Benefits for long military service, available to all who
qualify by length of service, not limited to wealthy folks. Benefits from SS from years of paying in to the system, available to everyone who pays in and survives, not limited to wealthy folks.

Need to check on SS benefits being cut. IIRC, the cut only applies if one takes 'early' benefits at age 62, but when full retirement age is reached, that goes away.

Retirement income is somewhat different. There is an offset for some retirements, don't know about congress/gov, but there is no offset with military retirement. One can get the full amount of each.

If benefits are cut on anyone, it probably will not affect most of us who are currently retired due to effective date. Even with that, if benefits are in fact cut, they would likely be cut across the board, so the wealthy would lose 'an' amount as well as the not so wealthy.

13. While I Appreciate Your Info You Seem To Be Missing The Point
Which is that members of Congress do very well by the government and there are some, like John McCain who has lived on the government 'teat' as Alan Simpson would put it, all their lives. Yet many of them are far to willing to cut services and benefits for the taxpayers, the very people who pay their salaries. Service members do deserve their pensions as do citizens who have paid into SS all their lives. And of course the wealth aren't the only ones who receive SS. Many who do actually need it to live on. And those who come after the already retired deserve the same full benefits retirees receive and may very well, given the economy, need it as much as anyone else. .
