With the repeal of DADT does the military
Edited on Sat Dec-18-10 07:50 PM by alex cross
revert to the previous policy of just booting all Gays? Anyone know how that works. I'll admit I haven't read the bill.

On edit: found the bill and the military code.

I'm sure it will be worked out, but I see some room for some old fundies to do a bit of foot dragging.

Mean time, it looks like don't tell just yet.

3. That part I understand
However as I recall there were some pretty harsh penalties for homosexual behavior in the UCMJ, so can you be openly gay but still subject to those rules?

Might that be the reason for this statement from Gates?

"this policy will change, the implementation and certification process will take an additional period of time. In the meantime, the current law and policy will remain in effect."

6. They need to rewrite quite a bit of the UCMJ
that is now underway.

The current policy also stopped kicking people out.

12. The military has some strict rules, you can get punished for
getting a sunburn in the Army. Willful destruction of military property.

14. Exactly, while IN UNIFORM you are subject to the Code
and out of uniform, you are subject to the code.

What changes is that both can go out in civies and have dinner together.

8. Sodomy is still against UCMJ. Take that for what it's worth. The question is, how
aggressive will the military be in enforcing that part of the UCMJ?

My guess, there will be a handful of hardcore commanders who hate change, but as time goes by it will only be used when it hinders combat readiness and/or effectiveness, similar to adultery.
