Bing to cops: Move to city, get $1,000 home, fix-it funds

From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20110207/METRO/102070380/Bing-to-cops--Move-to-city--get-$1-000-home--fix-it-funds#ixzz1DPKIKXbi

Detroit — Mayor Dave Bing today announced an unprecedented program to entice police officers to move back into the city by offering ownership of 200 tax-foreclosed homes in two of the city's most stable neighborhoods.

Flanked by top police brass and administration officials, Bing helped detail the program called "Project 14" in which foreclosed homes will be available in the East English Village and Boston-Edison neighborhoods. The program name alludes to police code for "back to normal."

1. Off subject, but...
I love your tag line.

Mine could be, "Sonoman, don't you know any normal people?"

My asshole stepfather, 1969.

3. I think that's a great idea...
Perhaps the city could do it for other city workers...

It would give people some incentive to live in and invest in their city.

Recommended.

5. Silly libruls!
Detroit is a craphole, and must remain ever thus. You go around fixing things up, especially under a government initiative, you start making the Republicans look bad. So knock it off! Oh, and that Chrysler commercial was horrible, making people in Detroit think about their past good times and encouraging them to work toward bringing them back. The proles are supposed to just sit in hopelessness and squalor while the wealth created by their labor is relentlessly sucked up by the winners.

Geez, get with the program!

6. I have mixed feelings on this.
At least they have a job with benefits. What about the working poor? There are so many people who work with no benefits that could use a home and funds to fix it up.
