Which can be survived? Nuclear attack or GOP majority invasion?
Government scientists have some handy information about increasing chances of survival during a nuclear attack, and the Obama administration is trying to figure out how to disseminate the information without freaking out the general public.

And an outside poll is asking:

But what about other impending disasters? Shouldn't the Obama administration be preparing us for those, too? Like, say, the incoming GOP majority in the House?

Don't get sick?

Duck and cover?

How does the DU community expect to increase survival rates during the incoming GOP invasion?

1. I prefer to live the coming year even if it means the GOP controls the House
after all I survived the last 10 years and Reagan before that

2. Sounds like it might be a package deal! The Republicans opposition to the Sart treaty
may get us into renewed fear about nuclear attacks, now that they are a majority!

3. You're right - they've been talking about a return to the 50s
Maybe "duck and cover" is what they want to bring back.

4. I've been in survival mode for 10 years
1/4 of my life.

I can make it through the next 2 years, but what I'm really worried about is the last 10 years of my life and the life of my daughter.

I'm spending my entire savings to get retrained. It's a gamble, but I'm gambling every day now so at least this could increase my odds.

What else can any of us do, except try to take care of ourselves and keep ourselves in a position to help others who can't? Without a safety net, we absolutely must turn inwards to survive. We must be less worried about whether your neighbor is paying his fair share, and measure what little wealth we have by our ability to help each other. I know that's what the 2-percenters want: we make all the sacrifices and they reap all the financial rewards, but what other choice do we have?

6. I think you nailed it with:
"we make all the sacrifices and they reap all the financial rewards, but what other choice do we have?"

I just hope that we can make productive choices along the way. Sounds like you are.

7. My vote:
Replace Michele Bachmann's pearls with uranium pellets.
