Jury rules man to be released from psychiatric hospital. He's now dead.
"An autopsy is planned on the body of a man recently released from a Michigan psychiatric hospital."

"Foley was treated over the next decade in psychiatric hospitals until a jury ruled last month that he should be released."

http://www.uppermichiganssource.com/news/story.aspx?id=580194

Considering the weather, he may have died of exposure. The article doesn't say but I'm guessing someone, maybe the deceased, challenged his confinement in the psychiatric hospital and won his release. Only for him to die in a field less then a month later.

4. Sorry but...
I know it's totally unrelated to the topic but I have to comment on how awesome your sig is, being in a serious, long-term, interracial relationship. Also because of my Bi tendencies and the open nature of mine and my GF's relationship (basically she doesn't care if I cheat as long as it's not with another woman).

Back on topic, I just want to say how effed-up the whole mental-health system is. Big-Pharma corporations are even worse than regular corporations, which is saying a LOT. From personal mental-health experience, meds make you *worse* than you were before. They get you chemically dependent so that you actually become crazy if you try to ween yourself from their dangerous products because you can't afford even generic. Yet another victim of the "system" is always a tragedy to me.

5. This is what happens when you have deinstitutionalization without a whisper of
appropriate community services available.

Happens every day in this country.

And don't get me started on the thousands of psychiatric patients who are moved in and out of the prison system.

A national and shameful tragedy.

6. It was Foley himself who demanded a jury trial
Edited on Sat Feb-12-11 06:34 PM by Kaleva
"A jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity and he spent more than a decade in mental facilities.

Then another jury, during an annual hearing on whether he should remain under involuntary hospitalization, set him free on Jan. 31.

Barkey said Foley demanded a jury trial, and even though doctors and nurses testified that he should remain hospitalized, jurors unanimously decided that his condition didn’t meet the legal standard for involuntary hospitalization."

The jury ignored expert testimony and gave Foley a death sentence.
