Congressman Allen West's "Nanny State"
According to Wikipedia, "Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person unconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world"

At CPAC, "http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/12/allen-west-cpac-speech-_n_822423.html">West asked members of the conservative crowd if they believe the country "can survive as a bureaucratic nanny state."

Note to Mr. West: That "nanny state" raised your ass just fine.

According to Wikipedia, "His father and older brother were both career military, while his mother was a civilian employee of the United States Marine Corps." That means just about EVERY PAYCHECK his family ever earned came from the Federal Government. West probably benefited from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Health_System">Government Run Health Care, since either his mom or dad would have used the VA or US Government's employee health plans.

He himself is career Military, so his salary in the US Army has been paid for by taxpayers. Now taxpayers are paying his salary as a Congressman and help with any pension and benefits he would draw as retired Army.

-------

I'm sick of people like West dissing taxpayer-funded Government programs as if they have never depended on the Commons for anything in life. West has lived in a huge social safety net almost all his life, courtesy of the US Army and the American taxpayers.

Being Military does not give one the right to look down upon citizens who work regular jobs and pay their taxes in order to one day receive Social Security, Medicare and countless other benefits as citizens of this nation. So if Mr. West talks about raising eligibility ages and cutting benefits for Social Security and Medicare, he better be willing to cut his own military pensions and benefits also.

For the record: My grandpa was US Navy, my dad was US Army and I completed the US Army ROTC Basic Course (2yrs) in college. I'm a Black man who was raised in the Deep South.

I hope that gives me standing to call Mr. West on the totality of his B.S.

6. Have to agree. We're together on this.
OP is good to bring out this info.

However, you don't have to scratch a wing nut too deeply for him to hemorrhage hypocrisy.

3. He must have really sucked to only make Lt. Col. in 20 years
It seems to me that in that kind of time if he was competent he should have made it to full bird Col.

4. Nanny state is not about that, although maybe that label needs some clarification

Government having welfare, food stamps, military services, education, health care. None of that is nanny state. That is correcting problems in the economic system.

Nanny state is a specific regulation on all of society, because of a few in society(that is not for rights protection of that group), it is treating all people in society like children, when some can handle things.

Nanny state is removal of rights on areas to make it easier for the nanny. Maybe I should call it evil step mother, not nanny state.

When I say Nanny state, I am talking specifically about measures forced on many people, that most don't need, to make it easier for those in any leadership area.

No guns is nanny state, no drinking is nanny state, mandatory check points is nanny state, patriot act is nanny state.

If it takes the rights or freedoms of many because of a few, it is nanny state, I will from now I will try to call that 'the problem step mom state'.

Here is a funny clip, although there are some bad metaphors in there, 'teacher' specifically, I think that is about that kind of specific teacher. Has the funny 'erased' metaphor in it also. I think everyone should teach and learn.

5. Your definition of Nanny State is not Congressman West's
West isn't talking about guns, drinking ages or Patriot Act as being Nanny State.

In his own words:

"How did we get to the point where we are told that “only government” can remedy our current economic situation? Last time I checked it was government that placed us in this situation.
...
When we focus on empowering the American taxpayer, our small businesses, and entrepreneurs then our economy will grow.
Why not simply say we are going to eliminate capital gains, dividend, and death taxes. We should no longer tax social security benefits. We could freeze employer and employee payroll taxes for six months to a year and create wealth for our families. Why not establish a flat tax rate with standard deductions for individuals, corporations, and businesses and provide tax credits to those who stay in America, hire Americans, and produce American goods and services? We need to look towards stimulating investment, innovation, ingenuity, and economic growth… not bloating government and increasing our deficit."

And realized people think differently of what it is.

I agree it is treating people like children, but where I see it different is that helping people up, and the crutch are not the same thing.

And concepts of people thinking society is pets or children.

I back what they think of as children, that are actually more mature in many ways, and there are lots that are very well trained out there, and with free will, that can make a difference in many things.

And yes I see the two meanings, the point is first off, there is a lyric change, and secondly what is being erased?

8. Eliminate all taxes on the rich, and he won't call us "nanny state." Good deal!
Some people can't feed their families, but Alan West thinks big. He wants them to have wealth! He'll just freeze their taxes for six months and voila! No he wouldn't say that. :eyes:
