"I lost my job because of Obama".
Republican friend: I lost my job because of Obama.

Me: How is that?

Republican friend: Because he and Barney Frank created Fannie Mae to loan money to poor blacks who can't pay the mortgage. Bush tried to stop it but the liberal press hammered him. Now look at the mess we are in. There ain't no jobs 'cause of this.

Me: Fannie was started in the late 1930s and it doesn't loan money for people to buy houses they can't afford. They buy mortgages and sell them as investments. Who told you this?

Republican friend: You need to watch that guy Fred on Fox News. Fannie gives money to unemployed black people to live in nice homes for free. Now the money is all gone, and I can't find no work.

Nice old guy almost my age (63) who makes cabinets. Believes every word he hears on Fox News. How many millions are there like him out in Palin land?

Another sad note: A friend of mine went to a doctor's house for a repair job last week. They had LCD TVs in every room of the house. Every single one of them was set to Fox News. The wife even bragged that the kids were only allowed to watch Fox News. Fahrenheit 451 anyone?

I have come to the conclusion it's going to require the republicans taking total power from 2013-2017 and causing a massive depression before the American people wake the hell up. Republican recessions and housing crashes don't phase these idiots. Jobs leaving because of republican free trade policies don't phase them. The Bush wars based on lies don't phase them. It's going to take suffering on a massive scale before they ever wake up.

"Fannie gives money to unemployed black people to live in nice homes for free." Nice homes? They get Manors with a limo and the butler is included. :sarcasm:

They just finished doing that a couple of years ago.

It is not that these people are "asleep" or anything like that, they're mad as hell at whomever the Tee Vee tells them to be mad at.
These people are totally brainwashed.

Edited on Tue Feb-15-11 02:08 AM by Ichingcarpenter
are they not Acquaintances?

I have a lot of acquaintances, but my very good close friends are few I can count my very good friends on one hand. And that's how I like it.

friends don't let friends watch fox.

26. No it really happens
My sister came over one day and asked me if I thought it was true that 50 +/- yo white males were under represented by govt in this country. That they did not benefit from any social programs but paid for them instead.
I was in total shock. Watching fox news for a couple of years does brainwash people.

7. I wind up in people's houses that have Faux Snooze on all the time.
I'm a chimney sweep, and I do routes in Northern California. Sometimes I'll do 6 to 8 in a day. when I'm covering the fireplace etc, and they have Faux on, I'll snicker and make snide comments (semi-under-my-breath, heh!). I've really pissed some of them off, but really don't give fuck, and neither would my boss.

My father is like this too, unfortunately. There's no discussion with that kind of stupid, you just have to stand back and hope it doesn't splatter on you.

11. talk ain't gonna fix it
Bitching about the political opinions of Fox news watchers is about as useful as bitching about the morals of junkies. Propaganda isn't just a name for political opinions you don't like.

13. They will cavort, cajole, and conspire to blame it all on Democrats, and their people will listen.
The ONLY way to end this is to give them what they want. Completely. As in, abstain from every single vote. Don't let one single solitary Democrat vote for ANYTHING, and let the media figure out how to spin it.

Okay...maybe that's not the only answer. But it's certainly the only one I'm seeing at this point, because they do this blame game so fucking well and have nearly a third of the country LITERALLY brainwashed. It's going to take more than a march or trying to talk reason. We're talking CULTS here, cults of the brainwashed. You don't reason with them -- it's not possible.

wow that is a major disconnect. Obama invented time travel. Even during the reign of George the second, Obama was giving loans to the undeserving blacks so that the housing bubble would burst two years before he took office.

15. Am I imagining things or didn't Bu$h the Lesser try to make home
ownership a cornerstone of his re-election push. I seem to remember him pushing it hard and heavy for, you know, everyday 'Murcans.

I've grown weary of trying to politely counter such people as in the above post. The sad, frightening thing is they never ever blame their party leaders.

18. Ron White said it best:
"You can't fix stupid." If even the mess caused by eight years of Dubya couldn't do it, I don't know what will. As it is, we narrowly avoided a massive economic catastrophe through policies Obama put in place while he held his nose

19. It wouldn't matter if it was fox news or someone on a soap box in the town square.
If someone's a racist and they're looking for a scapegoat for their lost job, they will twist the words to meet their needs.
I don't watch fox news, but I seriously doubt they're saying "Obama is letting poor blacks live in nice houses for free."
I think we would have heard that on the rebroadcast-everything-they-say-on-fox channel.
This is a disturbing trend however. One that we see in Europe.
