Question about desertion. Have you heard of James Dresnok?

He's the American who defected to North Korea in the 60s. Thankfully, it looks like it ain't happening, but if the Korean war got going again, and the South and US invaded the North, could this guy be charged for desertion?

But then he was never charged with the crime even though he is certainly a deserter. He never completed his obligation, and just went AWOL because it was too inconvenient to attend training.

Personally I think he was too cowardly to fly the F-102 or F-101, a pair of bricks with stubby delta wings. I honestly don't think he ever flew one solo but only went up in the TF-102 with a trainer.

He got the choicest billet in the US armed forces; a pilot in an Air National Guard unit and it was too much for him. Maybe his problem was the "12 hours from bottle to throttle" rule.

People moan on this site about him not being charged with war crimes I still can't get past him not being charged in the 70's as an AWOL deserter.
