is behind them-when they most certainly are not!

Connect the dots and you will see that more people are jobless and homeless right now more than EVER BEFORE with a so called dem president in office!

Let's not sugar coat this and see it for what it is!

Bill Clinton is NOT there to save the day, no way in hell.

27. No one can make the case against what Walker is doing better that
Clinton or Obama. President Obama is better out of the fray. Clinton will connect what the protesters against the bill are fighting for to the future struggles of workers that think they do not need unions and who don't understand the benefits that union negotiations have directly given them. Clinton can match any speaker the republicans bring forward, then some.

Do you understand what is going on and why we are in this condition? I was an activist fighting NAFTA. I was a delegate in opposition to Clinton's initial nomination run. He was an anti-worker politician all along. He has no place in this aside from grabbing glory from the very people he has harmed. He is anti-union and anti-worker. Always has been.

74. WTF does NAFTA have to do with this?
These specific workers are being screwed because this asshole Repuke in WI shoved through tax cuts last month. Now this month he acts like union workers are to blame for his self-inflicted budgetary problems, and instead of taking concessions from them he simply wants to kill the unions. Killing unions will not fix the budget.

95. solidarity means solidarity for ALL workers, not simply the ones in WI
in the 1990s, manufacturers were able to outsource union jobs to lower-paying places like Mexico where workers are paid dollars per week.

Michael Moore did some great work on this in The Awful Truth - the management living in El Paso while their companies set up shop across the border in Mexico - this HURT the American economy - and, believe me, a lot of people, whether labor or not, know and remember that Clinton wasn't on the side of labor time after time.

There is a HUGE disconnect among those who seem to think this is about Republicans vs. Democrats since the DLC was right in there destroying the working class year after year.

We get a vote for the lesser of two evils too often in this nation - that's not simply the fault of the Democratic party - a major fault lies with the American media - as we've seen in their reporting of the events in WI, with the religious right, that lies to people and makes them think they're somehow "godly" to not support workers' rights via union organization (this is esp. prominent in right-to-work states... being a fundie and screwing yourself politically seem to go hand-in-hand.)

So, this is why people aren't all that jazzed about Bill Clinton showing up at a labor protest. When he was president, his actions didn't indicate he was all that big on rights for workers.

73. Is he going to tell them how much NAFTA and the DLC have helped them
over the last two decades?

I see this as an attempt to co-op the movement and thus have some control over it. In short, I think Clinton has some responsibility for where we are today in America.

81. Well gee, you are kind of thinking about this is an extremely narrow terms
NAFTA has decimated manufacturing in the US. Much of that work was done by unionized labor. Not only has the loss of jobs hurt the families of millions of unionized workers, it has put tremendous pressures on state governments on many fronts. High unemployment, higher Medicaid, less tax revenue. These financial pressures bring about the BS we see today in WI with the teachers. If you need an explanation of why the DLC sucks please do some of you own reasearch here on DU and elsewhere.

Cheers!

91. +1,000^ Hard to see how many DUers really don't get it
The media is the source of the disconnect, I know. But really, there's no excuse for DUers to miss this obvious outcome of the corporate take-over of much of the Democratic Party.

80. I think it would be absurd.
He was here to campaign for Jim Doyle campaigning for governor 5 years ago. He was amazing and that was appropriate. He is a great Democratic Campaigner.

This is a populist movement. He doesn't belong here.

82. The tea party brought in Joe the Plumber?
Rev. Jessie Jackson was there. Democrats are supposed to stand up for Unions. Clinton is a democrat, and thus hopefully stands up for unions, and NOT BIG BUSINESS.

83. What Democrats are supposed to do and what they actually do
are two different things. Bill Clinton can stay in New York. We'll just stick with homegrown Russ Feingold any day, thanks very much.

96. What makes you think Clinton is an ally? He passed NAFTA which was nothing but an assault on
working people many of whom were unionized. NAFTA is yet another reason why unions have been weakened in this country.

Clinton didn't do any favors for working people. He has no business there.

I was there for 4 hours and I saw state patrol, sheriffs, and Madison Police. No secret service.

87. Bill Clinton signed NAFTA.. he signed Media Deregulation....
..Media Deregulation gave total control of our home-town radio stations to Clear Channel and Fox News. Bill also cut critical welfare to the needy.. (the ones that needed it most)

I find it hard to cheer for Bill or Hillary

92. agreed
NAFTA, GATT. The Telecommunications Act, Welfare "Reform"... all from this "Democrat".
The result is the lack of jobs and financial pinch we're in. King George 1st would have had trouble getting NAFTA passed, but Clinton did it for the corporations no problem.

Clinton was the most effective Republican president ever! yay

Ted Bundy. I always keep that in mind when I find myself buying into a compelling statement or plea.

I even keep it in mind listening to voip statements out of Libya and Bahrain. My own little reality check.

88. To be honest, I'd prefer if the party power structure stay out of this one.
I'm sure the Big Dog means well, but I can just see this getting coopted and turning from a people's movement to something more tepid, if it hasn't already.

93. The Old Dog needs to just stay on the porch this time.
He did MORE to destroy the Working Class in America than ANY other president in the 20th Century,
including Reagan.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans.
I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans."

101. Is he trying to atone for his NAFTA policies?
The ones that undermined unions in the 90's?

Okay, apart from my cynical jab - that's great he's going there to speak. It will help get media attention on the issue.
