On Friday, we rally in solidarity with Wisconsin.
Garden State Equality has publicly endorsed and is encouraging all of our members to attend the rally in Trenton this Friday, in a show of support for our colleagues in the labor movement. If you able to make it to the state capital, the rally begins at noon and we are being asked to wear red. If you are on Facebook, here is a link to the event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=201626273183137

We need the help of Progressives everywhere
by: Hetty Rosenstein

Mon Feb 21, 2011 at 12:02:37 PM EST

To my dearest friends, comrades, allies, brothers and sisters, students, parents, peace lovers, and progressives everywhere,

Some of us have fought shoulder to shoulder for the past 25 - 30 years fighting for equality, peace, economic and social justice, clean water and air and open spaces. We need your help. In Wisconsin, all over the country, and in New Jersey, right wing forces are conspiring to destroy collective bargaining for public workers. They have put millions of dollars into this fight.

With less than 7% of the private sector organized, the very life's breath
of the Labor Movement is threatened. Can you imagine - no collective bargaining rights? No job security. No contracts. No unions.

No strong labor movement to sponsor rallies of 40,000 people on May 22, 2010 to fight for a fair budget. No resources to fight for healthcare for all, and for seniors and for school breakfast and immigrant rights, and the Voting Rights Act, and public schools and child labor laws, equality, and public education and student rights, and safety and health, and green jobs and for the 8 hour day.

We are trying to build a National movement to stop this in Wisconsin, stop it in Ohio, stop it in Indiana, and stop it in New Jersey. This is a movement and we need you to help lead it.

There will be rallies at State Capitols all over the country this week. On the day of the scheduled rally, workers will wear red in support of the Wisconsin workers. In New Jersey, a Rally is scheduled at the Statehouse in Trenton at noon on Friday. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, other international presidents and Wisconsin Workers will be at the Rally. We need all progressive people to join us there to fight for the very existence of a Labor Movement in this country and this State. We need teachers and nurses and state workers and local gov't workers. But we also need students and grandmothers and peace lovers and environmentalists.

Please contact everyone you know. Open your address book and email, and call, and leaflet. Please get on our Facebook events page, Stand Up NJ and support collective bargaining and say that you are attending. Send notices to your friends to attend. Please help the Wisconsin Workers and collective bargaining in New Jersey.

Please save democracy in America.

In solidarity,

Hetty Rosenstein
