3. Fortunate here in Oklahoma with relatively mild weather
It'll be sort of "hazy," but the moon will still be viewable. Temps in the upper 40's.

10. I just went outside and thought I saw it starting. Thanks for the post.
Fog is racing across the moon. But it's visible even on the coast here in Mendocino.

I remember being in college in Santa Cruz in 1974 when there was a lunar ecclipse. We were all up on the roof, and someone was playing Strauss's Blue Danube. What a great time. Then we all got crazy and went into the showers and turned on all of the hot water and had steam baths. Unisex bathrooms back then. We're too PC for that stuff nowadays.

14. The "light shadow" is starting now
The "dark shadow" is when it gets spectacular, and that'll begin about half past the next hour. (That's penumbral and umbral for astronomer folk out there.) ;)

Total eclipse 2:40 - 3:53 a.m. Eastern Time.

20. It's crystal clear here tonight,
and I have a great view of the moon from my driveway. Also, it's only 9:00 p.m. here, so the timing is perfect. My plan is to take a few shots every 15 minutes or so, so back inside and warm up, and then back out for some more. It's only 9 degrees outside, so I'm glad I don't have to go stand outside somewhere for three hours. :)

I'll post pictures if any of them turn out okay.

39. My mountain top in Central Oregon has a clear view of the moon - so awesome
Cloudy sky, but the moon and a few stars/planets clearly visible - so lucky on this.

Saw it from the start - just a faint darkness on the left, and now over halfway in darkness. Have warmed up a bit now and am going back out.

41. 11:00 pm PST, my northern California sky cleared up revealing half moon moving to
quarter moon (I think). Awesome sight! Beautiful sky with wispy tails of clouds and some stars twinkling. Bit cold, though. (We had hail today.) Worshiped Mother Moon in her parturition and came back inside to be warm and cozy. Total eclipse, Solstice, everything's going to get better from this point on. That's my feeling.

he tried to get his girlfriend (staying with us for the holidays, she's from Ukraine) to wake up, but she declined.

The other was very impressed, and took pics for me. He's a good kid, appreciates the historic aspect of it, since he's going to grad school soon to study paleontology.

And a friend of the boys' came by, at 3 AM, just to check out what we were doing.

Yes indeed, a momentous occasion. So glad I was able to witness it.

Cats wouldn't wake up for this event. What's with that?

The kid was totally hyped, and I'm amazed anyone was able to sleep at all. Dogs were wide awake, but probably more because of our commotion than what was happening to the moon.

Turned out to be great viewing for us...a big motley red-orange ball, straight overhead. It looked more like Mars than the moon.
