Senators Plan Debt-Reduction Bill
Edited on Tue Dec-21-10 12:58 AM by pa28
Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Mark Warner said Monday they would introduce legislation early next year that mirrors the recent report by the White House's debt-reduction panel, in an effort to promote a conversation on the country's fiscal problems.

The senators said they would push for an ambitious time frame for tackling the problems and want an agreement in place by the end of next year.

We have members of the house from both parties falling into line around the regressive Simpson-Bowles framework and now Senators crafting bills around those recommendations.

On the executive side the White House praised the plan and wants to incorporate their strategy of tax reform by "broadening the base".

Looks like these guys are the toast of the town even though their commission failed to get the necessary votes for submission to Congress.
