It's called Coup de grâce...Republicans are experts at trying to do it.
Luckily, they often do not always get it accomplished, but the fact that they are always dragging those swords around, at the ready..just in case they see us let down our guard, says everything we need to know about them.
Republicans always strive for it.

coup de grâce noun \ˌkü-də-ˈgräs\
plural coups de grâce or coups de grace\ˌkü-də-\
Definition of COUP DE GRÂCE
1
: a deathblow or death shot administered to end the suffering of one mortally wounded
2
: a decisive finishing blow, act, or event

Variants of COUP DE GRÂCE
coup de grâce or coup de grace \ˌkü-də-ˈgräs\
Examples of COUP DE GRÂCE

1. The legislature's decision to cut funding has administered the coup de grâce to the governor's proposal.
2. <the prosecutor presented his coupe de grâce—a videotape of the beating>

Origin of COUP DE GRÂCE
French coup de grâce, literally, stroke of mercy
First Known Use: 1699
Related to COUP DE GRÂCE
Synonyms: capper, clincher (or coup de grace), crusher, topper

Republicans have never met an issue that did not call for a Coup de grâce. Beating the opponent is never good enough. There is never a reason for them to stop until they have finished them off.

democrats always do just enough, and then no more...sometimes offering a hand to help their "defeated" opponent up after a skirmish...never even looking for that sword they still have in-hand.

It's why we balked at Iran Contra, and why we "allowed" Nixon to resign and let most of his cronies go, only to be revisited by most of them when we also balked at the '00 election.

We offer mercy and conciliation, in hopes of coming to an agreement, and republicans are always dragging that sword around, just waiting for us to turn that other cheek..makes it easier for them to see the jugular.

1. Yes, they fight to kill, always with long-term goals and
fall-back plans, and a willingness to run with any opportunities that present them-self.

Democrats don't fight to kill, never have long term goals, don't stick together even for short term goals, don't have fall-back or secondary plans to advance if the primary goal fails, and always seem to drop the ball when a new opportunity unexpectedly drops the ball in our laps.

We are too nice, except for the ones that are controlled by lobbyists. And we are too scattered, except for the ones controlled by lobbyists.

We need to get rid of those ones who are controlled by the lobbyists, and then get organized and stop being so nice to our opponents in politics. (But remain nice to constituents, and get nicer. Don't buy into the idea that we are too nice to Constituents. Our party is the one that actually tries to work for them occasionally.)
