Mea Culpa, I take back my comments about Matt Taibbi....
Edited on Thu Feb-24-11 07:44 AM by WCGreen
Perhaps it was that I had come to expect more from him. The piece he did about new House Speaker Boehner seemed shallow to me, like he had phoned it in. Taibbi is great at compiling and then explaining information in an approachable way. I realize now that the reason I dissed the Boehner article was that it wasn't up, in my opinion, to his standard.

In the newest issue of the Rolling Stone, Taibbi gets back to what I think he does best; chronicling the festering sore of our capitalistic mindset, WALL STREET.

You have to pay for this as it should be. I am lucky enough to have received a subscription as a Christmas present and once you get past cover stories about Justin Bieber or lil Wayne, the old Rolling Stone, the one I grew-up with, is still there, still taking shots at the Establishment.

1. Justin Bieber or lil Wayne are the 'hooks' to get people to buy
the magazine. Once they are hooked then the actual relevant substance is revealed.

2. You can go for both ...
It keeps you up to date on the music scene and you get insightful articles. Kinda like with Playboy, you get solid interviews and tits.

4. I hadn't thought of it that way
I canceled my subscription after the Jonas Bros. (remember them?) made the cover but I should've considered that there was a higher purpose. Maybe I'll re-up.

5. I subscribed to Rolling Stone for the first time 2 years ago at age 60.
Primarily because of Matt Taibbi, although Tim Dickinson and a couple of other writers are great, too. In any case, the postmaster gave me the weirdest look when I picked up one of my first issues that happened to be a half naked L'il Wayne. (Guess L'il Wayne is always half naked judging from a recent cover.)

6. I stopped reading him when
he did that hit piece on Obama over the stimulus that was filled with spin and lies. The fact checkers had a field day with that disaster.

8. Fascinating article...
Good for you, seeing past the cover enticements to the real heart of the magazine, true journalism.

Recommended.
