Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) - Yes on DREAM, yes on DADT repeal, promised yes on START

Interesting - I remember seeing an interview with her saying she didn't owe the Republican leadership anything anymore and was going to vote her conscience and what was good for her constituents.

So a somewhat good result out of the party's rush to embrace Joe Miller and teabaggery.

Is she the new Ted Kennedy? No. Should she have done this sooner? Yes.

4. I'm glad to see Murkowski no longer toeing the GOP party line.

I am certain that she will continue to caucus with the Repukes, but her voting in the lame duck session does show some promise. If she had not been successfully "teabagged" by Joe Miller in the GOP primary and won her reelection as a Republican, I don't think she would have cast the same votes. The shackles of party affiliation seem to have been removed, and that can be a very good thing.

I am not ready to sing her praises yet, but it will be interesting to see what she does over the next six years. I hope it continues to be good for our side. :hi:

I'll just about always prefer the Democrat, but they aren't all cut from the same cloth.

7. She's Their Lieberman

The math in the Senate next year is more byzantine than ever. If current rules stick no one has the ability to get 60 votes and we should see the few bills that do get onto the floor to be fun to watch. People like Ben Nelson, Manchin, Pryor and Webb will be the new Blue Dog block that will surely be a pain in our ass but Murkowski along with Brown and Snowe will play that game on their side. The leadership on both sides will need a constant supply of maalox.

8. She is teaching them a lesson for future backing of tea party candidates.

I think more moderate Republicans will run as 3rd party if they are beaten in the primary by a weak tea party candidate. She has given them a model to follow and win. She is also angry with
the threats that the party made toward her when she didn't go away quietly.

I am glad she is putting salt in the wounds. THey deserve it.
