Climate Reckoning: the relentless rise of CO2
Edited on Wed Dec-22-10 07:10 AM by SpiralHawk
From today's NYT - By JUSTIN GILLIS

MAUNA LOA OBSERVATORY, Hawaii — Two gray machines sit inside a pair of utilitarian buildings here, sniffing the fresh breezes that blow across thousands of miles of ocean.

"They make no noise. But once an hour, they spit out a number, and for decades, it has been rising relentlessly..."

1. Wow...shows how far modern Republicons have strayed from facts, reality and truth
A snippet from the Times article about the scientist who set up this remarkable system of measurement....

"In an interview in La Jolla, Dr. Keeling’s widow, Louise, said that if her husband had lived to see the hardening of the political battle lines over climate change, he would have been dismayed.

“He was a registered Republican,” she said. “He just didn’t think of it as a political issue at all.”

2. It really should not be a political issue and who politicized it?
The Rs wanted to destroy the country and they are doing a pretty damn good job of it, they want to destroy democracy to have whatever kind of fucked up theofascist rule they want.
Same with Public Schools..the noise is that 'they don't work' then Rs get nutcases and creationists elected to school boards people who only believe indoctrination in their abomination of a religion is salvation or some such crazy ass shit, rather than EDUCATION in math, music, science, freakin Spelling and grammar!
Kill critical or creative thinking replace with dogma.

We are spiraling down the toilet of history and these idiots keep pushing the flush valve.

They want to kill the epa, osha, food-stamps, ss, infrastructure and any other thing that would help people, so we can all die in their apocalypse when the climate collapses..well you dumbasses all you will accomplish is the deaths of billions and no gd messiah to save your sorry ignernt asses.

10. Money is the only real Republican issue, this information threatens the status quo and the
status quo has the money; that's all the Republican power mongers care about.

Their insatiable greed blinds them on a multitude of issues; even on one that threatens life as we know it.

7. The earth will still be here
We won't. We will just be another failed variation of life in the history of the planet.

12. The sad thing is, it doesn't have to be that way.
All it would take is an investment in technologies that clean up the environment. President Kennedy talked about it when he referred to "depollution" technologies (sorry no link at present, going from memory). And, if we can go to the moon, we can do anything.

14. We are the last of the Homo Genus. When we go, that's it.
It doesn't matter if we survive or we don't. We are no more important than a Stegosaurus or a Pangolin.

Al Capp's "Li'l Abner" invented the Smogmobile which ran on pollution...

8. It took 250 years.

“It took 250 years to burn the first half-trillion tons,” Myles R. Allen, a leading British climate scientist, said in a briefing. “On current trends, we’ll burn the next half-trillion in less than 40.”

Thanks for the thread, SpiralHawk.
