Ariz. minimum wage to rise 10 cents

Arizona is one of seven states that will raise their minimum wage on Jan. 1, although by small amounts ranging from 9 to 12 cents an hour, according to the National Employment Law Project in Washington, D.C.

The Industrial Commission of Arizona determined in October that, based on a 1.1 percent increase in a federal Consumer Price Index, Arizona's hourly wage would rise 10 cents, to $7.35.

A state law approved in 2006 established a state minimum wage apart from the federal wage and provided for an annual cost-of-living increase.

This 10-cent raise will be the first in two years. Because the cost of living fell in 2009, Arizona's minimum wage was not raised in January 2010.

1. Geez....I realize it's "Something" but 3.00 a week (after taxes) doesn't hardly seem worth it.
When I was an I.T. manager, I give raises starting at .50 per hour up to 2.50 per hour. Anything else felt like an insult to working people.

2. True, but...
I'd imagine if the governor had her way, she'd drop the minimum wage to zero

4. Oh no!
Expect layoffs! (I'm serious, that extra 80 cents a day they'll have to pay their employees will be ALL that some employers will be able to think about)
