2. I'm anti-war and ambivalent/indifferent
Edited on Wed Dec-22-10 09:53 AM by Bragi
I support equality for GBLT people in all forms and manners, so I support the equality aspect of this new policy.

However, I can't say I'm over the moon and celebratory about this change.

For me, it's like celebrating the fact that gays can now openly serve in death squads sent abroad by our overlords. It fails to warm my heart.

4. Having a military is not an optional thing.
It's an essential part of every nation's security. Given that, everyone who wants to should have the opportunity to serve in their country's military. It's too bad that global politics make it necessary to have a military, but that has been the case throughout history.

5. Using a military to violently invade, repress and supress is a choice
And it's a choice the U.S has allowed the MIC to make for it, and which the MIC and the U.S is actively pursuing.

7. I am anti-war as well, I don't see this as anything to do with that.
I see it as a statement that our LGBT friends are citizens with rights that are becoming more equal to ours. Not there yet but this is one more step in the process. I don't see it as anything to do with the military, I see it as a human rights issue for LGBT. I know that you stated something similar so I'm not in disagreement.

3. Be wary, there is still time for shenanigans.
As I recall, after 60 days the President, SecDef, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs must certify in writing that military readiness will not be impacted by the repeal. This -shouldn't- be a problem, but I no longer have a surplus of trust for this administration... and the repubs are -always- looking for ways to fuck us over.
