Republicans now bragging tax cut bill is a compromise?
File this under WTF fuck are republicans and the press talking about now? There was no compromise by republicans as I heard President Obama clearly state they would not budge from their position. Its amazing now how there republicans are now going to lie to the American people about this.

1. This was a reply to my msg over at Reddit
Reddit has a LOT of 'conservative' posters. Here was a reply to my comment that the Republicans got pretty much what they wanted:

http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/ejntg/obama_admits_that_tax_cuts_for_the_rich_wont/c18oekw?context=3
ROTFL. Do you completely miss the part where the Republicans would stop filibustering the unemployment benefits and DADT? Did you notice that the estate tax will rise from 0% to 39%? Did you notice that the tax cuts include a 2% cut in the payroll taxes that Obama wanted? Did you notice that the earned income tax credit goes up? The EIC and tat cut in payroll taxes affects the poor much more than the rich and is a bigger stimulus package than the last one he got - and by blocking it, Democrats are sealing the economy into recession.

My reply:
But you're right, it wasn't like there was no deal, but it would be fair to say that Obama simply made a terrible deal and the Republicans got the better of him.

1) Unemployment was a compromise in that it was dimes for working class (not "welfare collectors") compared to the dollars to be received by the people who are sitting on their money not hiring people, because THAT'S ISN'T HOW IT WORKS. Tax cuts to the wealthy is a tacit acceptance of this FUCKING REPUBLICAN / LIBERTARIAN LIE that tax cuts result in more jobs.

2) DADT was the Republicans way of selling us a used car that didn't start. Where I studied math, nothing counts as nothing.

3) The estate tax. Let me see: The law that the Republicans passed under reconciliation said that if nothing is passed come 2011, the estate tax will rise to a rate of 55 percent with a one million dollar exemption.

It now goes to only 39% with a higher exemption. You paint this as some kind of Democratic victory? Don't throw me into the Briar Patch!

4) But the "compromise" of the wage tax (Social Security+Medicare) was the killer.

Again, you seem to paint this as some kind of Democratic victory, when this one move could destroy the Democratic party. Social Security is based upon a system that everyone pays in, and in doing so, everyone deserves to take out. Doing this holiday, however, (instead of some kind of tax rebate) de-links Social Security payments from receipts. It's a Republican's wet dream, paving the way to destroy Social Security along with everything else under the "safety net" umbrella.

Yet, AMAZINGLY, you would paint this as a compromise by the Republicans?

I'm not going to suggest that Republican politicians aren't adept, but I don't think there's any question that either Obama got his cow taken for some magic beans, or that Obama isn't the "liberal" that he's painted to be by the media.

The only "happy" Dems you'll find are "Nafta" Clinton and other members of the Democratic Leadership Committee.

2. There was a big compromise.
The wingers wanted the tax cuts made permanent, they got 2 years. The President wanted unemployment extensions, he got 13 months instead of the usual half of that. The President got more, the pubs got the privilege of dying off within a time frame and getting to pass on the first 5m free. The President got tax cuts for the middle class....which is what he wanted.
