1. What wonderful pics! What are the lapel ribbons? I saw Biden wearing one in
the Senate but don't know what it signifies -- do you know?

2. Schumer and Gillibrand said they would wear them until the bill passes.
New York Senators Say Christmas Miracle Coming For 9/11 First Responders

“To go home, whether it’s close to Christmas or not, and leave these heroes abandoned would be the wrong thing to do,” Schumer said. “I think there’s going to be huge pressure on people not to go home until we do this.”

Schumer and Gillibrand, who said they will wear red, white and blue ribbons until the bill passes, noted that the measure is now estimated to reduce the deficit by $57 million, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

10. Thanks -- good for them, and that's also an AMAZING way to bring attention
to an issue.

3. Look in the photos on the sign on the podium
The ribbon on the sign is the same as the ribbons they are wearing.
Looks like the ribbon wearing is for the support of the 9/11 First Responders.

6. I agree. I had the same thought. Gillibrand is smart and is a talented legislator.

We could very well be watching the first female US President legislate as a Senator. She should be in her second term as a Senator at just the right time, 2015, campaign time. If she misses that draw, she is young enough to wait until 2019 or 2023.

7. The repugs think they are off the hook when it is passed with a
unanimous voice vote. No way we need to remember and remind the voters that they actually made these heroes beg to get a vote on this.

12. I think Coburn's "this hasn't gone to committee" when in fact it did, a committee
HE sits on, but he didn't bother to show -- THAT'S what need to get extra attention. Prick.

8. I first had doubts about Gillibrand at first
But she's turning out to be a good senator. She may even be as effective as Hillary was.

13. Why did you have doubts about her? Just curious - I don't know that much
about her.

15. She was elected to a somewhat conservative district when she ran for the House
Her win was considered an upset.

Then when she won again, a lot of folks started to take notice.

Perhaps Paterson's greatest legacy as Governor is putting this smart, tough and young lady in the US Senate.

17. First, her House record was to the right of Hillary
And then there was the episode at Sotomayor's confirmation hearing when she went over her alloted time during introductions. And, finally, well, none of Gov. Patterson's decisions seemed to make any sense.
