Now that DADT has been overturned, only the prejudice remains . . . .
. . . . and there should be no doubt that the congenitally asshatish will act inappropriately and maybe in ways that could endanger gay military members.

Some of the details of the policy still need to be worked out.

Zero tolerance policies have not shown themselves to be good law.

How much overt prejudice and bias should be tolerated? At what point ought a homophobe's actions cross over into a criminal act?

Where do we draw the line?

1. It's impossible to legislate against prejudice.
However, it's possible to create laws that punish crimes motivated by hatred more severely than the same crime motivated by something else. In fact, we have such laws.

Prejudice, however, is an individual trait, and cannot be solved through legislation.

5. Thank you for a non-answer
Instead of an answer, you presumed to lecture me in basic facts as if I were a child.

Please refrain from doing that to me again.

2. I hope a tide of understanding rises to bring a new perspective to
those who have been so intolerant.
Now that the chips have fallen, will they at last see how their personal prejudices have compromised our National security and denied thousands of American their freedoms, let alone their dignity?

3. An issue I often encountered while in the military....
Split a six-pack, make crazy/mad love all night, then claim "a blackout" and vow to do it again at the next opportunity.

This is a start, but not the finish.

7. we'll be watching
It'll be interesting to see how they manage that. Laws can change a lot faster than a culture.

8. The good thing about the military is they order their troops to act certain ways
Most homophobes will keep their mouths shut since it will be they who get in trouble now.

9. whatever harassment rules apply to others should apply here
I don't have a specific answer but I assume that the military code of conduct already has an answer in it.
