A friend - usually apolitical - sent me "Democratic Socialism"

1. Look up "Social Democracy" for a contrast

Democratic Socialism is further to the Left than you may think.

The terminology is abstruse, but just remember that having the word "socialism" in it doesn't make it the same as other ideologies with the same word. For instance, "National Socialists" (the Nazis) were only redistributive in the sense that they defined people who were weak and different as a threat to the nation, and took FROM them so that people defined as "strong" and "normal" could stay strong. (You could say its socialism turned upside down.)
