When has the government said No to a corporate merger?
The FCC Chair gave preliminary approval to Comcast merging with NBC.

Are there any examples of corporations wanting to merge but being stopped by the government?

1. The FTC has blocked a number of mergers.

3. Oh the last time was thirty years ago
when the Anti trust was used to break the Ma Bells by Carter...

One reason he became a target of the right. After that, not so much.

6. Mergers are blocked fairly often. See my links

in the messages above. It's a commonplace thing. You just don't hear about most of them.

Not all mergers are major news, so we don't hear about the blocked ones so much, unless you're closely following the financial pages. If you wish, I can repost the links for you, but they're just up-thread.

How did I find them? I used Google. I'm not a financial issues whiz.

Oh, heck. Here's the link, so you don't have to look for it: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=ftc+blocks+merger
