Who gets to drink the "good beer?"...
A fight over who gets to drink the "good beer" led to the arrest of a former Ku Klux Klan leader and his son in rural east Osceola County, the Sheriff's Office said.

Troy Hixon, 45, his girlfriend, another woman and his father, George Hixon, 73, were drinking Wednesday night when Troy Hixon threw his girlfriend down and began shooting into the ground near her, a sheriff's report states.

George Hixon served time in federal prison in the late 1980s for possessing an unregistered machine gun. When drug agents searched his home at the time, they found evidence that he was a leader of the Ku Klux Klan in Osceola County, they said at the time.

Troy Hixon's girlfriend, whose name was not released, told deputies that an argument began after she complained that she was forced to drink cheap beer while the men drank "good beer" — Budweiser, according to the report. She also said someone poured beer on her while she was on the ground, and she heard a can crumple.

I particularly liked "I'm not pretentious.. uh uh uh, YOU'RE pretentious!" Classic. Listen kid, some day you're going to wake up and figure out that while it's perfectly fine to appreciate and enjoy "good" beer or "good" wine or "good" coffee, blathering on about it like some 80's yuppie (as if anyone in the world cares how much you know about coffee) doesn't make you seem cooler, it makes you seem clueless. Budweiser sucks! Gee, really? Fascinating. Tell us more!

47. It doesn't take much sophistication or discrimination to know that Bud is not a "good" beer ..
It just takes taste buds that have been exposed to better quality beer. Most American made beers could only compete in the Special Olympics of beer because their taste is so handicapped. Fortunately Americans are beginning to realize that beer can taste better than horse piss. Microbreweries are becoming quite popular in our nation.

54. Okay beer snobs... check in here. What makes a beer good or bad?
Is it the water?

Is it the grain, how the grain is steeped, or how long it's steeped?

Is it the hops? Do you like hoppy beer or sweet beer?

Is it the yeast? Liquid or dry?

Is it something done during primary fermentation, during secondary?

Why don't you tell us beer hicks what separates a "good" beer from a "bad" one?

I'd bet money that no one here who claims to know "good beer" from "bad beer" could tell me what separates one from the other, and where the separation occurs.

It's a taste thing for some, a name thing for others, and a where it's made thing for the rest. I brew beer as a hobby, probably 6 times a year. I like it hoppy and bitter. I've cloned Budweiser yeast for a couple of batches, and have been told that my 8.2 beer tastes almost exactly the same, before being asked if I had a six pack I could spare.

Totally subjective. That doesn't stop people from expecting others to agree with their taste in beer though.

Fucking snobs.

56. Budweiser tastes horrible. It gives me hiccups. It gives me heartburn and it gives me hangovers.
But it has nothing to do with it being a domestic. Michelob doesn't do any of that to me and I like it. But I do tend to drink "snobby" beers like Guinness and a variety of German imports. I like my beer bitter or skunky and I like it not to give me digestive issues and not to have me waking up with a hangover. I think those are all good enough reasons to decided whether a particular beer is bad or not.

57. We've had our differences, and they've been displayed here for all to see.
For your answer to my question; I truly appreciate your response. Your reasons for not liking Budweiser are completely valid because they are your own. I respect that.

I like hoppy skunky beers as well. That doesn't preclude my appreciation of other beers though. I guess I have a cast iron stomach because I've yet to find a beer that messes with my digestive system. Hell, if it's yellow, bubbly, has a high enough alcohol content, is cold enough, and you're buying it, I'll drink it and like it. I've found that if I drink enough, which doesn't happen very often (!LOL!) every beer gives me a hangover.

My favorite beer used to be Lowenbrau. Good skunk. If you're old enough, you might remember the foil on the bottle. Strange, but when I was young, I thought that was a sign of extra workmanship or something.

...but that kind of thinking has set me up for some pretty bad mornings the next day!

And yea I celebrate Christmas. Its not strictly a religious holiday. The end of December has been celebrated for some reason or another since way before Christianity. Its an American consumer holiday at this point. It provides me with a reason to get time off work and fry my liver a little more.
