Gallup has Obama at 49%-45% Today and My Take on That.

After dire predictions and a sharp dip in his popularity, Barack Obama may truly be the new "comeback kid".

He lost a lot of support from his base (including me) by extending the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans as well as the estate tax. I'm still waiting for the Employee Free Choice Act (good luck with that one).

However, at 49% today, he is better than the original "comeback kid", Bill Clinton at the same time in his Presidency. President Clinton stood at 40% about this time in. Ronald Reagan was even worse, at 37%.

Both of those Presidents had to deal with Congresses dominated by the opposing parties, and dealt in a bi-partisan way. Both handily won re-election.

I'm not happy with this approach. I preferred the FDR strategy of partisanship in making an economy recover with the basic principals of the Democratic Party leading the way. But, alas, that's not going to be the case.

I'm frustrated, but not stupid. I know that President Obama is the best we're going to do in my lifetime (58 years old). I'm on board again, but a bit jaded and a little disappointed. After my McGovern days in 1972, I've had to "settle" for the best I could get. I'm afraid that I'm doomed to that political reality for the rest of my life. Count me in the 49% again.

4. I'm not big on social issues

I get it, but it's just not my priority. I'm an old fashioned FDR, New Deal Democrat, Labor dominated, worker's rights, improve the middle class type of guy. We're the people that too often get taken for granted and my peers are the ones that help Republicans win. We need to address those issues, starting with "Make American, Build American, Buy American". If we want to win back the working class, that's the motto and issue that will do it.

6. Neither am I

I think social issues like gay rights and abortion are overblown and distract us from more important issues like improving the middle class and the huge pay gap between the working class and executives. Gay Marriage and Abortion rights should be a right in a free country, no discussion. I was just simply saying that repealing DADT improved Obama's imagine within the party.

before has there been such an obstructionist group as the current Republicans.

I believe that 49% will incrementally tick higher as the Republicans fail to bring jobs back. It's on them now in the House and we all know that they lack intelligence and creativity. That is the dagger in the heart of the Republican party.

We will have to continue to get more Progressives in the House and Senate and more Republicans out. I believe again the Republicans will help even though it will be unintentional. They will continue to push outsourcing so the corporations get richer and they will continue their attack on Unions and the unemployed.

Now that the unemployed is not solely minorities and is comprised of vast group of people (all races and ethnicities)the MSM and the government will not be able to ignore them. The anger will rise because I believe the unemployed are an educated mass. These people know how to get things done, they are creative and they have more power than lets say the unemployed during the Great Depression.

The Republicans are fighting a battle over the next 2 years that they are not prepared for.

7. George McGovern was a war hero and American patriot
It's a goddamn crime how these rotten-ass republicans get away with slandering heroes like McGovern and Kerry.

9. Don't get me started
Did you know that George McGovern had to be ordered off his plane after he exceeded the required number of missions. He kept fighting AFTER they told him that he could go home. He flew in the belly of bombers on air raids over Berlin.

Those assholes, who never fought, convinced the American public that McGovern was a coward when he proved he was a hero when the chips were really down.

Bastards, Bastards, lying to nit-wits and ruining our country. That's where all the real cowards, like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Buchanan and the rest of those pieces of shit all got started.
