I'm debating healthcare on Facebook with someone
Edited on Sat Dec-25-10 12:06 AM by Tony_FLADEM
and this is the statement he made:

"@Tony: People's financial situation is representative of how much society values them. Why should those who have little value to society be able to reap the same rewards as those who work hard and society does value?

If there was no punishment for being poor, everybody would want to be poor."

So they think one's value to society is based upon how much money one has and poor people should be punished and denied healthcare.

1. Ask him if a nurse is more valuable to society than a model.
I pity people who are so heartless and brain dead.

Also, ask him what would happen if the garbage collectors went on strike for 2 months.

3. And why do they assume that people who are poor do not work hard?
From what I see, the lower your wage, the harder you have to work for the little bit you're paid.

Wish the ass a Merry Christmas, I'll bet they consider themselves a Christian (though only a believer in supply-side Jesus).

4. Forget guns, keyboards should only be issued via license.
Want a keyboard? Here's your IQ test and your psychological fitness exam.

If there was no punishment for being stupid, everyone would want to be like the poster. So, I say punish him.

6. Bill Gates isn't the most important person in the world
I have an idiot aunt who believes in the "prosperity gospel" bullshit about those who love God the most are showered with wealth.

Somehow, I don't think Bill Gates is #1 on God's little list...

9. +1000
Professional athletes are more valued than nurses? Stock brokers are more valued than teachers?

I don't think so.

Society doesn't value them more, THE MARKET does - to believe that money is the only measure of value that matters is insane.

8. society's values are created by
people that value money... Tony has it backwards... people with money and in positions of power have the ability to dictate what we think we value... if there were no low wage agricultural workers getting food to the markets, the wealthy people would change their values

10. almost50% of Texans are either uninsured or on government assistance
My patients.

79% of them work.

6.2 million uninsured adults in texas

1.2 million uninsured children(would be more if not for "socialist" programs)..in texas.

F%ck anyone who believes this.I see the suffering of those who would give anything to NOT be in this position.

11. Ask him why do they want to make more people poor. Their
Free Trade Policies have outsourced almost all good paying
jobs. This policy directly rewards the Elites, the Corporations
and the rich. More profits are realized from cheap labor overseas.
The Middle Class is losing ground and falling into poverty as
a result.

12. Saying that a person's worth is tied to how much money they make is unconscionably cruel.
It's also un-American, un-Christian, and anti-humanist. What a fucking pig. I hope this isn't a friend of yours, because he's a jackass.

Being poor IS punishment.

13. You Can Disprove His Little Theory Emphatically
I've used this line a lot when people "inform" me that hard work = success. Do you know of anybody who works harder than the American farmer? And yet........do you know any farmers who are rich?

And you can even take it one step further. Society has chosen to make farmers and teachers among the lowest paid occupations in the country. So does that mean that they have no value? With no teachers, children don't receive education. Without farmers, people don't EAT.

It's nice to know that Paris Hilton is a more valued, and therefore better person than you or me or pretty much anyone we know, though. I love to use the Paris Hilton example whenever right-wingers start extolling the values of the rich. It makes their little arguments blow up right in their faces.

14. there are so many things wrong with that statement it is hard to sort them all out
besides the obvious fact that a football player makes much more than a cop or a fireman and is less valuable to the survival of the society

many people's financial situation is based on what their investments have done, not on how much society values their occupations

human rights are not based on what this person would consider that person's value

also the idea that the rich are working hard is not valid

if we valued hard work then it would be taxed at a lower rate than investment income, it isn't

just so many things wrong, I can't sort them all out

to stuff his Ayn Rand book where the sun don't shine. This type of disgusting attitude is why health care is not a basic human right in this country. It's part of why we're a third-world, barbaric country.

I can usually shrug off morans like this guy, but this guy really needs a lesson in how a human being with human emotions would act.

If you can stomach it on a holiday, this is a link to his letter. I haven't read the comments to his letter yet, but I'm sure that there are some real head scratchers in there.

On Edit: I started to read some of the comments and the stupidity and hatred in this region go beyond pathetic.

There is only one thing that adequately explains their motive. They desperately want to de-fund the social safety net and these concepts justify this. Then we can spend more on the MIC and everything will be wonderful.

Jesus didn't talk about punishing the poor. I wonder if your facebook pal is a Christian? If so, he should maybe read about what Jesus and the prophets said about caring for the poor.

Effing Christ!
