JOS, Nigeria — a series of Christmas Eve church attacks and explosions have left at least 14 people dead in Nigeria as authorities worked Saturday to prevent a new wave of religious violence.

The situation was especially tense in the central city of Jos, where explosions on Friday evening left at least eight people dead. The region has been previously hit by sectarian unrest that has killed hundreds this year.....

Scores of people were injured by the explosion. Officials said most of those killed and hurt were civilians.......

German officials say a development worker was killed on Christmas Eve in northern Afghanistan when his vehicle was attacked. The aid worker, a consultant for Germany's state-owned KfW development bank, was taken to a hospital at a German army base where he died of his wounds.

There were three others in the car with the aid worker, whose Afghan colleague was also injured in the attack. Both men were involved in a project to build a road between the cities of Kunduz and Kholm.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on their website......

A policeman was killed and three others injured on Friday night when Taliban insurgents attacked a police checkpoint in Jarghan area of Kohistanat district of Sar-i-Pul, commander of security personnel coordination centre, Gen. Abdul Samand Zazai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Taliban set fire to the checkpoint after a three-hour clash, he said.....

ADEN, Yemen — A soldier who hired a motor-bike taxi in southern Yemen was shot dead by the driver in what is believed to be another ambush by Al-Qaeda militants in the restive region, an official said Saturday.

The killing took place in Zinjibar, capital of Abyan province, on Friday, the security official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity. The soldier, he added, had hired the taxi to take him to his home in a suburb, where the driver shot him dead.

In the past six months, 28 suicide attacks by bike-borne militants have killed 15 officials in Abyan alone, the southern province that has become an Al-Qaeda bastion. Security officials say the Islamists have carried out similar attacks in other provinces....

As per details, three people were injured including a teacher and two children in a blast in New Modern Colligate School. Explosive material was installed on the outside wall of the School. Injured people have been shifted to hospital.

Eyewitness school children said that blast occurred at the time when school was off......
