Christmas Mix-Up: FHP Tells Wrong Mom Her Son Is Dead
Patrolmen "seemed so certain" her son was dead, said Christine Simpson
One Central Florida family experience their own Christmas miracle Thursday morning when they discovered a son the Florida Highway Patrol told them had died after being hit by a car was sleeping peacefully at his fiancee's home.
Christine Simpson didn't question the patrolmen who arrived at her home around 2:30 a.m., informing them her son Andrew, 34, had been struck by a car while running.
"Both of them seemed so certain," she told the Orlando Sentinel. "They had a picture of him, but it wasn't from the scene. I got kind of out of it for a few minutes."
Advised by the troopers that it was best to call relatives over to her house to break the news, rather than asking them to drive distraught, Christine Simpson called Andrew's fiancee and asked her to come over.
"'Do I bring Andrew with me?"' she said the fiancee replied, and Christine Simpson, unaware that Andrew was sleeping in bed next to her, told the woman to come by herself.
But when his confused fiancee arrived, Andrew's mother was informed her son was alive and well and just a phone call away.
