Boston woman finds dog in wreckage of burned home
March 23, 2011

BOSTON—A Boston woman who thought her beloved dachshund was gone forever after a fire destroyed her apartment a month ago has found her pet living in the wreckage of her burned out home.

Terisa Acevedo, who moved in with relatives after the Feb. 23 fire, returned to the apartment on Monday after her landlord asked her to turn off the alarm on a vehicle she still kept in the driveway.

The 24-year-old Acevedo heard scratching, pulled away the plywood covering the doorway, and found the year-old pup, Lola.

She says the dog, a little skinnier than she remembered, jumped into her arms, setting off a flood of tears.

14. Either that,
or just too stupid to leave the house.

It could just be that I wound up with the dumbest weiner-dog on the planet. He's very sweet, awfully cute, and dumb as a bag of rocks. Oddly, he's brilliant at getting into trouble. Just can't listen to save his own life.

5. OMG, yay for the doxie!
*gives my two mini-doxies an extra hug*

They are tenacious and resourceful, so it's not surprising that this one survived.

6. Wonderful!
No leash laws when I was a kid, my beagle followed me to the bank, we went in one door came out another door. 5 hours later, "where is Spotty"?

Looked and looked, Spotty was at the entrance to the bank where we went in. After all these years, it brings a smile to my face.

Dog people are the best!

7. Doxie's are friggin' indestructible
I had one lived to nearly 24. I ate an entire fruit salad laced with an entire bottle of Madeira. I once ate an entire bottle of cold medicine. I left it out in a blizzard for 4 hours by accident once.

And now this one? When I lose faith in humanity at least I know doxie's will always persevere.

13. Mine was run over by a Cadillac.
Edited on Thu Mar-24-11 08:26 AM by The Doctor.
Stupid moron got out the back door as we were pulling out of the driveway and tried to catch us. He ran right under a Cadillac, then ran back up the driveway yelping.

Had a few scratches on him, but he was fine. The driver of the car, an older guy was in tears apologizing. I told him not to worry, that it was the stupid dog's own fault.

Here he sits now by the heat vent on the floor... dumb as ever.

(But so clever at getting into trouble)

17. Makes me cry, but I needed that good news story today.
:loveya:

I considered skipping it, since 'alive' wasn't in the headline but my heart was hoping for it.
