6. Thank you, my dear shanti!
This was taken in a spot that is well known for the great views of the downtown along with Mt. Baldy (the nickname for Mt. San Antonio). I've been there when there were a number of professional photographers working ...

It's the Kenny Hahn Wilderness Regional Park or some such name.

Glad you enjoyed my picture!

9. Are those the hills east of L.A. Miss Peg?
It's been too long, left the valley in the mid 80's, but that sure looks like the range I remember.

Traded for this one.

Indeed, yes, those are east of LA...

The San Gabriel Range, the most famous of which is Mt. San Antonio, or Mt. Baldy.

It is a true mountain, being 10,000 feet high.

I LOVE photographing it!

:hi:

On edit: your picture did not show, unfortunately.

31. Sorry about that!
I am not having much luck w/ getting the skill of posting pix!

Hiking up to Schweitzer (sp?) Falls is still a favored recollection of the area, much different time of year though.

36. Something to try when an image won't display in a post:
Edited on Mon Dec-27-10 01:31 AM by pinboy3niner
Right-click on it, then select "Properties."

Copy and paste the URL address to your browser address bar and go there. Most of the time, you should be able to see the image--and when you use the back arrow to go back to the post, it should display there, too.

When I tried this, jotsy's photo of Mt. Hood magically appeared! :hi:

Note on edit: I had to do the same thing with this post to make the image appear. Even though it previewed okay, it didn't display when posted.

When I right click, I don't get properties...

Oh well...

Thanks for trying, anyway!

I can't see it in your post either.

23. great picture
Is it taken from the north side of Baldwin Hills?

My favorite part of the picture is I can't pick up a freeway, know where the 10/110 interchange is but I can't pick it up from the perspective.

I think that interchange is off the right-hand edge of this picture, but I'm not sure.

It's funny--I know where that interchange is, and I know where this park is, but I don't know where they are in relation to one another!

I think the park is on the north side of Baldwin Hills. I do know we're facing east.

Glad you enjoyed the picture!

30. Very pretty, CP
When I used to live in SoCal back in the early '70s, I didn't even know there were mountains over there, the smog was so bad. I think the air has improved quite a bit since then.

Thanks!

Yes, the air has cleaned up quite a lot, but we still have days when you cannot see the mountains at all. Some days, it's just the fog that obscures the scenery, though...

I didn't recognize the LA skyline it's been so long since I lived there.

Used to hike a lot in the Santa Monica mountains looking at the city and San Gabriels. And Catalina.

I am kind of confused, I thought you lived in Northern California..I could have sworn I saw some pictures of the South Bay that you had taken, guess I was wrong. Great photos always though!

Well, I used to live in Northern California, but not for decades...

My pictures are of the South Bay, but this refers to the Santa Monica Bay! If you look at a map of SoCal, you will probably see the bay labeled that way.

Sorry for the confusion!

And I'm glad you enjoyed my picture...Thank you!

42. oooooh..
Santa Monica is lovely. I lived in Santa Barbara for a while, so I visited many of the places down south.. I think the farthest I went was San Juan Capistrano. I don't know, when I hear South Bay I think of places like.. Brisbane, San Bruno, San Mateo, Foster City, East Palo Alto,...guess I been in the Bay Area too long! I still love it here!

this morning.

GLORIOUS! We need our snowpack BADLY here in SoCal.

40. Thank you, my dear calimary!
It can be really beautiful!

And today it was.

Thanks for your compliments!

Unfortunately, our water does not come from there. We get most of our water from NoCal, via the California Aqueduct. The snowpack in the Sierras is pivotal for us...

The snow on Mt.Baldy is good for the skiers!

41. The tourism sure will help.
Although I heard one weather forecast that indicated that it would be a great ski season - if only the skiers could get there.
