3. Poignant but (though I'm not a fan myself) including NASCAR seems kind of like a cheap shot.

5. I don't think it so much a cheap shot as this was a group...

specifically identified for poll numbers in an election cycle. Can't remember. Was it the Kerry/Edwards election? Anyway, it's a reference to a polled demographic that was targeted by the GOP.

6. Kerry got beaten up for an insincere-sounding quote/nod to NASCAR which he may not have made.

I think it was Howard Dean that was reaching out to the "NASCAR Dads" and that still seems like a good idea to me.
